The Capitals have already expressed some interest in visiting the White House as the NHL's newest Stanley Cup champions, but at least one of their players won't be making the trip.
During the Stanley Cup Final, Caps forward Devante Smith-Pelly, who is one of the NHL's few black players, said that he would likely skip a trip to the White House thanks to his distaste for Donald Trump and the things the president has said in the past. Nearly a week after winning the Cup, Smith-Pelly stood his ground on the matter.

Who cares? Some one wants to go, then go , some one does not then don’t. Of the littlest importance! There are important things happening in our country and what sports people visit the White House is not on the list!

Listen, athletes for the most part just aren’t that bright. They never had to be since they were carried along in school because of their ability on the field of play. However they believe they are experts on everything because they have had their butts kissed by all the hangers on throughout their sports lives.

One of my favourite Caps (and people in the game), so I'm not really concerned about that other fellow.
Maybe he is mad at Trump for claiming credit for the low black unemployment rate, when everyone knows it’s because all the black people got jobs acting in TV commercials.
Forget invitations, let’s do applications.
Make players AND even fans of a championship team APPLY for a visit, on a form that begins:
I stand for the flag
I stand for the vets

Player and fan applications get put into separate baskets, then five players and five fans get selected to for the honor to meet their president and visit the White House.
Was hoping he'd end up in Buffalo or Arizona.

He is an Canadian Black Hockey player. He does have a gripe. Trump has made a chump out of Justin Trudeau. LOL!
