The White House is denying a report that Chief of Staff John Kelly is planning to step down this summer.
I spoke to the president who refuted this article. He said it is absolutely not true and that it is fake news, White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters told reporters.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the president has been speaking with his advisers about who could possibly replace Kelly.
Two names that have surfaced as frontrunners are Nick Ayers, Vice President Mike Pences chief of staff, and Mick Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget.
Trump and Kelly have had a tense relationship since the former Homeland Security secretary joined the White House in July 2017.
Multiple reports in recent months have indicated that Kelly has limited influence over the president and that the two don't get along .
There have been previous rumors about Kelly leaving the White House.
In April, Kelly denied a report that he called Trump an idiot" and mocked the president's lack of policy knowledge.
I spend more time with the president than anyone else and we have an incredibly candid and strong relationship," Kelly said at the time.
"I am committed to the president, his agenda, and our country," he added. "This is another pathetic attempt to smear people close to President Trump and distract from the administrations many successes." ( The Hill )
Kellys departure could come this week or after Trumps trip to Europe next month, where hell be in Brussels for a NATO conference July 11-12 and then the United Kingdom on July 13. He will also be meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland on July 16.
Another snowflake wet dream becomes fake news.
Which is what the President has said before every other major appointee has left.
If Kelly isn't serving Trump well, and there are a whole lot of reports that he isn't, then he needs to leave and let the President appoint someone who he can work with more productively.

I’ll start:
“The Adults!”
Amen, I can’t do better than that.
Somebody from within keeps running their mouth to the reporters. On this one, I do expect Kelly to leave sometime soon, anytime from now up to next February, weeks after the Mid-Terms. Some reports of his dissatisfaction on the job may be fake, but I doubt if they all are fake.
It seems believable that two powerful, very strong willed men would lock horns every so often. Both are accustomed to being in control.
I believe Trump operates on the "bangboard" concept.....and it works.
I agree, in part.
He has denied previous candidates would go, who then did.
Recycling this one yet again.
Trump may have smoked-out another leaker.
Kick Kelly to the curb and make Newt Gingrich Chief of staff I know I know LS you’re going to say Newt is to eager to serve in the administration.
But he’s the perfect fit with vast knowledge of how to handle the Congress and his knowledge of history and the Geo-Political world he was born for this.
If it’s not true why does he have to keep denying it? /s/
Remember all the talk about Cheney, how he was unhappy...being forced out...health problems...
Fake News has been with us for a long time.
Kelly should leave (or be made to), and if his buddy Mattis keeps up with his Insubordination Lite, he should too.
I always consider the possibility that juicy rumors like this may always be part of an effort to identify leakers.
Whenever something sounds like democrat wish-fulfillment, give it time to become verified.
Chaos! Turmoil and dissent in the Trump camp!
It’s PEAK TRUMP!
I heard a rumor that Hope Hicks is coming back to replace Kelly as chief of staff.
Now that would be an interesting plot twist.
Hope Hicks
If they can't serve the President in the fashion that Trump needs then I completely agree. They need to go.
There was an opinion piece in the Washington Examiner by a Ryan Girdusky who said that.
Why do they keep saying this?
