Last summer at a party on Long Island, the largely Manhattan crowd was surprised, but polite, when Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump were among the guests.

Will that happen this year? For Ivanka and Jared, the most visible and social Trumpists, life is mostly like a summer evening out at Jay Gatsby’s. But a lot has happened since last year, from Charlottesville to the internment at the border of innocents, that tries the soul. It’s engendered a raging debate between establishment Democrats who caution not to go against anyone in Trump land in a Trump-like way (Nancy Pelosi, David Axelrod, etc.) and activists, frustrated and increasingly furious that nothing is working to stop the president’s immoral actions, who want to accost his enablers wherever they find them (the Maxine Waters way).

I somehow think the Republicans will be willing to trade a firm handshake instead of an air-kiss from Ms. Carlson for three branches of the US government.
I think many of us are a bit fed up with them anyway, and don’t really want to trade the well-being of our country and the health of the right’s agenda just to make Ivanka’s social life better. We don’t really care if she gets the bum’s rush. She can always make another donation to an illegal-sponsoring church to see if that gets her in the leftys’ good graces.
Its overdue time for Ivanka to see reality of who are real “ friends”
Her whole life was spent among air- kissing elites whose core human values and traits were hidden behind fake smiles and fake concern for charities and social causes formed as tax avoiding foundations and tax deductible parties
Wherever they are welcome this summer they can be sure are genuine people, not virtue signaling elitist snobs
I feel very strongly that our society/country needs more shunning. A lot of bad BEHAVIOR should be handled by shunning, not laws.
But these people want to shun IDEAS, WORDS and BELIEFS, not behavior. And they would like to back up their shunning with laws.
Reminds of Bruce Wayne having his birthday party on Batman, and then telling all of them to leave. These people are all fine with Trump, Jared, Ivanka, as long as the parties and dollars are flowing and they are yucking it up in New York.
Others have said and I agree that this President was studying all these people intently and he knows what they are and what they do in the dark places.
Why do we have to waste time reading crap like this? I turn off the tv when Juan Williams or Rob Reiner speak.
The country is and always has been and hopefully for a long time to come will be conservative. Liberals and the left wing philosophy is in the minority. It’s a waste of time to convince or debate them.
I thought Carlson was dead. You never see her shooting off her big, full semi-automatic mouth on TV anymore.

My point is that it is amusing to see the Democrats reduced to such a pathetic state.
Their only defense to the Republican onslaught is playing Mean Girl games at Summer beach parties on The Hamptons.
For those who don’t know, Sneery Girl (as my husband calls Carlson) has succeeded Sally Quinn Bradley as the doyenne of Washington. Her tiny sandwiches, baby vegetables and sparkling wines are the talk of Long Island and Washington parties.
