ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Sheriff Ron Bateman confirmed multiple people were killed in a shooting at a Maryland newsroom Thursday afternoon.
The shooting occurred shortly before noon PT at the offices of the Capital-Gazette newspaper.
A sheriff’s deputy has arrested a suspect near the scene, Bateman said, but the sheriff’s department has not released information on that person or whether there may be other suspects outstanding.
The Capital-Gazette, often referred to as “The Capital,” is one of the region’s oldest newspapers. It’s owned by the Baltimore Sun.

shooting has occurred at the Capital Gazette in Anne Arundel County, a paper that is owned by The Baltimore Sun, according to reports from Gazette staff.
Phil Davis, a Gazette reporter, said that multiple people had been shot. Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Police were also at The Baltimore Sun newsroom in Baltimore.
