Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) used Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells (R-Ky.) own words defending his decision to block the nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court to argue that Americans "should have a voice in selecting the next justice.
Duckworth on Wednesday tweeted out a screenshot of McConnells 2016 tweet saying the American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice and captioned it with the same language, but replaced #Scalia with #Kennedy.
McConnell blocked the nomination of Garland, President Obamas Supreme Court pick, after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016, claiming that the seat opened up too late in Obamas term and that the next president should pick the justice.
The move set the stage for President Trump to nominate conservative Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch to the bench last year.
Gorsuch sided with conservative justices in handing down several major decisions this week, including that to uphold Trumps travel ban. McConnell celebrated that decision by sharing a photo of him and Gorsuch.

Democrats say WAAAAAAAAAH, WAAAAAAAAAAH!
Maybe she thinks this upcoming election is for President again ?
Oh, you knew that was coming!!!
Americas voice was heard ... its called an election ... and Trump won it ... be gone.
FOAD Tammy.
Americans do have a voice, they elected President Trump.
Well, sounds familiar but this is not the end of the Trump term, like 2016 was for Obama. Sad that McConnell will lead the effort but maybe he’ll like the choice Trump makes and actually get congress to act in July to have a new justice ready for August 1 start date.
We do. We voted for President and for 1/3 of the Senate in 2016. Suck it, bitch.
Americans did have a voice. They voted for Donald Trump, knowing what type of justices Hillary would select. Don’t underestimate how important the future of the SC was in the last election...
And our voices will continue to be heard in Trump
s upcoming selections.
One voice we DON’T need to hear is Tammy Duckworth’s...
Funny, but last I checked, Supreme Court judges were confirmed by a Senate majority, not a national popular vote.
Sounds like more demonrat sore losership to me. Winning!
Dear Tammy,
We do.
TRUMP!
Crazy, illiterate Tammy again. Quick! Somebody read the Constitution to her.
Their voices were heard Nov 2016
Tammy, you need to shut up and eat your peas.
That is what finally convinced my country club Republican mom to vote for Trump.
How surprised would she be to learn that a Republic is NOT the same thing as a Democracy? Or, perhaps she doesn’t know we’re a Republic.
have a new justice ready for August 1 start date.

The Supreme Court will reconvene in early October.
Since when did democrats care what Americans think?
