Lexington is a politically blue spot surrounded by a sea of red. It went with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 president election by a 2-1 margin. As the burial site of Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and Thomas Stonewall Jackson, Lee-Jackson Day festivities stoke strong emotions and debate.
I believe this city is losing its identity, said Simon Islam, a senior at Washington and Lee University, which is in Lexington. Its become too liberal, and its had a negative impact.
John Findlay, executive director of the Republican Party of Virginia, showed up with a roll of Trump 2020 stickers.
Not aware the restaurant was still closed, he said he was going to try and get a table and see if hed be kicked out of the restaurant.
Throughout downtown Lexington, employees at businesses said they didnt want to comment on the controversy for fear of widespread backlash, including potentially from Trump.
The nearby Blue Phoenix Cafe & Market posted on Facebook on Monday that it supports The Red Hen.

Yes, definitely sounds like Blue Phoenix Cafe & Market needs to be next. Doubt any Trump admin folks will be revisiting Lexington anytime soon. Locals, 63% voted for Trump need to clean up their town.
Did the irony hit you in the face from that quote? Simon Islam.
Up until a decade ago, you could generally take the 100-mile circle around Arlington and say that it was extreme liberal, while the rest of the state was fairly conservative.
I think the university campuses around the state have changed the motivation and direction of things. It’s a heavily divided state, with locals asking how this all came to be. I lived there for three years and came away thinking that within a decade, it would be the California of the east coast...totally dysfunctional and likely in need of dividing the state in half.
Boomerang!
A Fustercluck! Get it? A Fustercluck!
Doesn’t matter. ANY owner like that who is ready for a change can go out with a bang!
Speaking of Yelp, the Red Hen reviews are freaking hysterical! Sure there are some five star ones tossed in by sympathetic libs but most are “Can I give zero stars?” and just hilarious. I mean ROTFLMAO funny!
You get that a lot in small red towns with liberal arts colleges. The left makes sure students register and vote locally. The ones who do always vote to blunt the will of local taxpayers. I have no doubt they still vote absentee at home, given that they are engaged enough to contaminate the local electorate.
It is hard enough to survive as a restaurant and here they are destroying their own business.
The Red Hen will soon be the Cooked Hen.....stick a fork in it....it’s done.
A $50 a head, farm to table restaurant in Lexington. That would be a challenge even befor you tick off 50% of the clientele.
The deplorables are going after the Phoenix on Yelp already. My, that was quick.
Yes. Yes it did. And you beat me to the comment.
Reminds me of that Far Side cartoon where the two old, toothless dogs are sitting on the porch, watching a cat wearing a mailman's uniform deliver the mail. "We're getting old, Zeke!" says one dog to the other.
“Your review for Blue Phoenix Cafe is now live!”
The Main Street Lexington Facebook page disappeared-
“Sorry, this content isn’t available right now”
Perhaps after the haters go out of business the town can be rebuilt by God fearing conservatives.
Barf me out.
Penn State is totally Marxist!
Stick a fork in it, I think the Red Hen is done....
The Red Hen is now the Dead Duck
