June is Pride Month, a ripe time to reflect on one of the most startling facts about our sexual culture today: Condom use is all but disappearing among large numbers of gay men.
Many rightly attribute the condoms decline to the rise of PrEP an acronym for pre-exposure prophylaxis, a two-drug cocktail that inoculates a person from contracting H.I.V. But another crucial component is the fading memory of the AIDS crisis that once defined what it meant to be gay.
After tracking the sexual practices of 17,000 gay and bisexual Australian men from 2014 to 2017, a team of researchers this month unveiled the most convincing evidence to date. While the number of H.I.V.-negative men who are on PrEP increased to 24 percent from 2 percent, the rate of condom use decreased to 31 percent from 46 percent. More troubling, condom use among non-gay men is also down significantly.
Although public health advocates have been sounding the alarm on condom use for the last decade, their calls have gone largely unheeded. Part of that is because of a shift in how we talk about risky sex: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has replaced unprotected with condomless sex.
The dangerous implication is that PrEP alone may ward off all sexually transmitted infections. Indeed, studies have shown a strong correlation between PrEP use and the contraction of S.T.I.s. PrEP enthusiasts counter that PrEP mandates testing for S.T.I.s every three months, a practice that promotes rather than discourages a culture of sexual health.
But a 2016 study by the University of California, Los Angeles illustrated that PrEP users were 25.3 times more likely to acquire gonorrhea and a shocking 44.6 times more likely to develop a syphilis infection (other studies have found no significant uptick in S.T.I. rates, however).

And then theres the bug hunters...
1) There's something wrong, when one's lifestyle is DEFINED (his word, not mine) by an avoidable disease. Avoid the lifestyle, avoid the disease.
2) There's nothing safe about buggery. "Safe buggery" is an oxymoron.
Sucks to be them. Literally.
it is one of the things I have been trying to explain to some people in my church. The level of disease and suffering which homosexual or illicit sex engenders is horrifying. The HIV rate here in Sierra Leone is through the roof, but no one wants to go to the main reason, they just keep pushing the condom myth.
homosexuality is a death wish, both literally and figuratively.
They are sexual obsessives. Their whole lives are defined by the phallus - which is why the American medical assoc. had them listed as mentally ill. Nothing has changed much. And when the next catastrophic disease hits them, the taxpayer again, will be forced to pick up the tab while women’s health issues (heart disease, cancer) linger in limbo.
Does this reporter not understand that HIV is caused by a virus and Gonorrhea and Syphilis are caused by a bacteria, this the cocktail will not work?
I would rather go suck a snake then be gay.
“And then theres the bug hunters...”
Almost afraid to ask what that is.
Gays looking to get AIDS on purpose to end the anxiety.
Wow. Just wow. I once heard there were homosexuals who wanted to have AIDS and I took that with a grain of salt, but that last part of the quote above indicates to me it was very likely true.
Given the promiscuity of the gay community, I’d expect Super-Gonorrhea to be epidemic before long.

That is, it is entirely possible to me that there are people who felt that a homosexual could not be genuine enough unless they had AIDS...
Twisted.
Unfortunately, self-evident truths, such as this, are no longer self-evident. . . which means common sense is no longer common.
You’re posting from Sierra Leone?
... and spiritually.
HIV became an epidemic because so many homosexuals are hugely promiscuous (dozen or more different sex partners per week).
It is GUARANTEED that a treatment-resistant strain of HIV, or something new, will turn up over the next few years and spread rapidly.
I read the average male heterosexual has 8 partners in their life time. The average homosexual has 115. If that's not evidence of a mental illness, nothing is.
