Lynch has never been a commercial filmmaker. He's so outside the zone of the mainstream of Hollyweird that he is aloof pretty much from its politics.

Heck, this is the guy who George Lucas personally offered the reins of Return Of The Jedi to... and Lynch turned it down on the spot!

DAM! Ah, he’s probably set anyway and can make his own movies or like you said, do his off the mainstream movies.

Plus in the end, if you’re that important and talented, $$ speaks louder than politics most of the time.
