They should have come to the heartland instead of the elite coasts.
Firstly, one reason is the economic ruination of the middle and working classes. It was reported that over 50,000 factories have been moved from the USA to China in the period from 2001 to present. China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001 and the American elite jettisoned the working class and the technological middle class. An economically rational American would reasonably sell his labor in any market for the best returns. When that market is clearly not in the USA, he may look overseas to and find somewhere he can make his living.
There was a story some years back that a mechanically talented Michigan man could not find any work except in the oil fields up in Canada. Is he supposed to sit in the USA and be a welfare beggar, or go past the border for work?
Another reason could be political oppression. Consider the case of the reporter Michael Hastings who died in a very suspicious automobile accident. Would it not have been better to have made arrangements overseas, and gotten himself out of the States beforehand? What if a natural born citizen of the USA has reasonable suspicion of political style sabotage. Just consider those assaulted by ANTIFA. If they bring lawsuits and statistically weird things happen to frighten them off, would that not be a signal to leave? Or if they suffered the judgement from a politicized jury or morally twisted judge, is that not a signal they would be better off residing in another part of the world? Heck, I'd hardly blame them for just leaving the USA in disgust.
Then there is the comment of Ann Barnhardt, who after the corruption of the commodities exchange noted that the USA is no longer a Republic. The laws are simply not enforced. Someone whose life's work was wrecked by this corruption could reasonably leave and restart life overseas.
And what about the H1b visa problem that started with the Immigration Act of 1990 and will not stop no matter how much people protest? The American technological middle class is being replaced by massive importation of labor mostly from China India. Should not the affected American laborers look for opportunities where these can be found?
Violent political style harassment, economic sabotage and corruption are just some of the reasons for even natural born Americans to leave. Love can be an excellent reason too.
And thank you for the complement and extra, beneficial insight. A nation without good family values *for all* is a nation in decline.
There are some things that I admire about the best (in my opinion) of some eastern philosophy. It is the realization that...
We should be humble in regards to ourselves and proud only of good things that we do.
We should not compare ourselves to others so much. We should rather compare ourselves to ourselves: that is, to do better today than yesterday.
And here is a bit of western wisdom that we may have lost decades ago but might regain. Fair and honest competition is healthy for business and good for a whole national economy. An established company in business should be honest and fair towards new competitors. I’m not quite sure, but it appears that our President Trump is trying to promote that tenet of older western wisdom.
As for the world, each country should import what it cannot produce in sufficient quantity for its own people. And any country that can produce more food than it needs for its own people should be generous and beneficial in exporting to another country in need.
Hopefully, our American farmers were not too frightened by trade talk earlier this year. I wonder if we might see more corn and less soybeans in the market than last year.
We don’t euthanize our elderly like dogs.
Well, my British-born daughter in law loves being a naturalized American citizen! Wouldn’t go back to the UK.
So many issues are raised in that article.
In a “melting pot” such as the US, the “old country” cultures that immigrants bring with them are gradually diluted to the point of disappearance, especially after several generations.
So yes, I can understand the comment about blandness from people who arrive here expecting to find a unique American culture that really doesn’t exist any more. And maybe it never really existed.
A major part of this is the mass communication technologies that have developed over the last century or so. First came radio, then television, and now the Internet.
There was a post here recently about the disappearance of regional dialects and accents. As kids grow up immersed in TV, their speech tends to lose those regional characteristics. That can be good or bad. I won’t ever miss hearing the atrocious Philadephia accent, but it would be tragic if that beautiful southern drawl ever disappeared.
Cultures are by and large learned in the home. Traditional home life, in the isolation of small communities, isn’t happening any more.
And for those who think that by staying in their home countries that they will be immune to this gradual homogenizing process, they in for a surprise. It is growing worldwide thanks to the Internet and social media. You can see signs of it everywhere if you look.
Geez. WOT.
We are being trolled.
I agree with them. I am lonely, all I do is work, and money does seem to be everything. Maybe I should look abroad for happiness.
You can tell these comments were written by young, shallow, often liberal twits.
“There are no parents in America; there are only property owners. There are no children, spouses, partners, friends, or lovers; there is only property. Americans don’t really have freedom or independence; they have dependence and to their cars and other properties.”
Don’t go to the EU, just stop showering and using deodorant. This will save money and create the same effect.
lol well I would have to keep up the American cleanliness standards, compulsive about that
I don’t think you’re a schlub Vette!
All I hear these people saying is that the US isn’t liberal enough. That’s a good thing.
Even here in Alberta, there has been a little animosity towards some Americans headed to Alaska. I only met one older couple from Kentucky who were liberal. When some idiot local gives the Americans a hard time (like last summer to a Georgia couple), I stomp out that attitude with a sledgehammer heh.
Where I live, we generally love real Americans, and support Trump.
Last week, I had a flat on my truck, and I went to get it repaired at my place I’d been going to for years. I’ve spent over 20k there. There was something on the news, and one owner said he wishes the retard would shut up and actually do something. I listed a few great accomplishments and he scoffed and said that until he passes gun control nothing means anything.
I picked up my phone right there in front of customers and the owner and called other tire shops. I asked how communist and liberal they were, and one shop laughed and said their founder was a WW2 vet, and they love liberty. I asked them if they offered free flat repairs, they said yes. Then right on the spot, I fired that tire shop. I turned to the people there and said as a vet, I refuse to support communists, I refuse to support those that want to take my guns. Then I walked out, so did another guy heh.
So at the end of the day, real Americans can ignore these idiots and know that real Albertans have their back.
Hade a good day over there.
Lithuania? Russia?
Never amounted to any thing never will. Detritus is found in the backwater
The American progressives are Euro wannabes. Their only thoughts was conceived in Europe earlier. The bottom line is that they are inherently lazy
One American costume is what are called Daisey Maes. They are everywhere in summer and have been accepted in Asia as prototypical America.
Maybe I should look abroad for happiness.
Be my guest.

So leave. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Immediately. And don't come back.
Good heavens, what a load of self-important blather that creature has emitted.
1. I think the vast majority of these comments are from foreign intellectuals.
2. When these intellectuals came to the US, they probably stopped on the coasts, the US bastions of liberalism and intellectualism.
3. Liberals need to take a long, hard look at themselves and the America they portray. It is shallow, self-centered, hypocritical.
These very same liberals try to portray middle America as uneducated, etc. But, I know the quality of life in middle American, even among the poor, is much deeper and happier than the liberals on the coasts will ever know. They think that those in Europe or India or Asia have a much better culture and life, yet overlook what is in their own backyards.
