I think during a Second Civil War the military would splinter into three camps: one siding with Liberals, one siding with Conservatives, and one deserting/resigning.
In a scenario you mention the supply systems for the military will become chaotic as the nation descends into armed chaos, many will go awol and many who fire upon their fellow Americans will find they can’t go home again. The US military would sustain losses that they can’t replenish from at least 50 per cent of the population as they will be hostile to the US government led by liberals. The liberal cabals, seeing their doom coming upon them would come around to the notion of nukes either using them or threatening to use them on their own country.
The thing is, while we are occupied in our own internal struggles, I think certain other nuke players in the world will see to it to make sure we are finished off completely...either by invasion and or nuking the most troublesome parts of our nation...ending us for good!
So yeah at first, military forces might cause a few hundred thousand casualties but American is a big place and with only about couple of million men(many of which aren’t battlefield tested) to cover the whole conus(including Navy) and also many of which would have to be called home from over seas, the military would have a problem quelling a massive national insurrection especially when commanded to do so by military hating Liberals!
They’ll try to use use tactical nukes and other sorts of “rods from God” type weapons but these will be pyrrhic victories, leaving all sides in a weakened state. Our foreign enemies may see a chance to pick us off!
The truth is most USMC folks are much more conservative then the libs know.
