TUCSON, Ariz. — When Luis Cruz left behind his wife, four of their children and the house he’d built himself, he’d heard that American officials might split him from his son, the one child he took with him. But earlier this month, the two of them set out from Guatemala anyway. The truth, he said this week, moments after they arrived at a cream-colored migrant shelter in Tucson, was that he would rather be apart from his child than face what they had left behind. “If they separate us, they separate us,” said Mr. Cruz, 41. {snip}

“This is the reason I brought a minor with me,” said Guillermo T., 57, a construction worker who recently arrived in Arizona. Facing unemployment at home in Guatemala, he decided to head north; he had been told that bringing his 16-year-old daughter would assure passage....“She was my passport,” he said of his daughter.

In the history of all humanity, we are the first generation to have obese “poor” people. In fact, the majority of those who are “poor” are obese.

I know things are not peaches and cream in Central America but I do believe someone is organizing this and paying for all of it up to the point they get them to the border- then we the people get to pay.

People are paying an average of $6,000. to coyotes to guide them here, how do destitute people even get that kind of money. Unbelievable. Truly destitute people could probably make their way to the nearest consulate to apply for asylum or legal entry into the US...but $6,000 to make the trip? Not buying that for a minute.

Obviously, because their countries of origin are great places to be from.

The problem never changes unless that changes.

If you feed rats you get more rats. Stop ALL rewards for illegals. NO EBT, no Section 8, no SSI, no employment, no enticements at all. Build a defended wall and stop giving incentives to illegals. It’s not particle physics.

they allegedly borrow from relatives - who expect to be paid back with interest. That 57yo dad mentioned in the story will more than likely farm his 16yo daughter out, who will be expected to cook, clean and support dad on the AFDC she will receive, along with performing slave labor to repay their debt. No quinceanera for her.

and then you have LARaza orgs like the Southwest (something) that has a billion dollar contract with the govt. (with a CEO pays himself 3/4MM dollars and his wife 1/2 mm dollars salary).

I have a hunch that these orgs are kicking back to coyotes to bring people up, since their livelihood depends on a constant flow of intakes. But it's just a hunch.
