North Korea media tone down anti-US rhetoric
The Financial Times ^ | June 21, 2018 | Bryan Harris and Kang Buseong

For decades, the US was a “rotten, diseased, pirate nation” in the eyes of North Korea’s propagandists. Then almost overnight the hate stopped.

Following a landmark summit between Pyongyang and Washington on June 12, anti-US vitriol has disappeared from state media reports — a development that some analysts see as preparing North Koreans for a new era in relations between the two long-time adversaries.

“The anti-American slant is just gone. North Korea appears to be preparing people for a new beginning,” said Peter Ward, an expert at Seoul National University who studies the North’s propaganda.

The changes in Pyongyang’s rhetoric will bolster hopes of those, including US president Donald Trump, who believe that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is sincere about reorienting his reclusive nation back into the international community.

When the two leaders met in Singapore last week, they pledged a “new future” and since then the overtures have been positive.

On Tuesday, Washington nixed long-running military exercises that irked Pyongyang. North Korea, for its part, appears set to repatriate the remains of US servicemen killed during the Korean war in the 1950s.

Scepticism persists, however, that North Korea is using the becalmed atmosphere to push for sanctions relief and has not actually moved towards the ostensible goal of the Singapore summit: the regime’s denuclearisation....

I noticed that too. North Korea seemed to seriously be ready for some peace talks. I recall being horrified when Rudy opened his big mouth and said Kim was ‘begging on his hands and knees for another chance to arrange a Summit with Mr. Trump.”

I could not believe his indiscretion and lack of diplomacy, especially knowing how sensitive the Asian countries are about pride and losing face. Then I thought, maybe Trump wanted that to be the final ‘test’ to see if Kim was REALLY ready.
Turns out there was no official North Korean reaction AT ALL!
Well now.

Wow. Do you think the US media will follow suit and tone down its anti-US rhetoric or is that too much to expect?

A total of FIVE! US Administrations have tried to get the Palestinians to finally look at the Jews in Israel as HUMAN BEINGS, rather than hate-filled animals. So far, no sign of progress, although Trump is trying something different, which is to treat the Palestinians as they are - which are hate-filled beings - and then see if they GET THE MESSAGE.

Not much different on the Korean Peninsula. The FIRST STEP in achieving a real peace there is ACCEPTING that Americans are human, along with South Koreans. If Mr. Kim is doing that, we are actually getting really, really, close to having peace there.

Those in darkness hate the light. And USA, for all its faults and mess-ups...is still very much a shining city on a hill. And you can tell this by who its enemies in the world typically are.

As far as the Korean peninsula is concerned, Americans have done so much to protect and safekeep Korea — which was always in a vulnerable place when left to its own. (Dealing with fates like decades of brutal Japanese occupation etc...)

In the 19th Century/20th Century especially, Americans did not just help pave the way for South Korea to be where it is today— but even Pyongyang before the Cold War and Korean War, was populated with American missionaries. They not only built churches, but schools and hosptials. They did not “colonize” or impose culture and language the way others had done past. Some Americans even gave their lives. And following Korean War, Americans gave aid to the North in the midst of hostility.

Unlike the Russians (who created the North Korean state) and Chinese who, when acting ideologically, act in the name of communism — and when without ideology, in the name of expediency...

At least where Korea is concerned, Americans always had a noble foundation they were ultimately operating from. Again -even through its faults and mess-ups. It acted in the name of freedom and the best interests of the S.Korean people were served. And that is why they are in a place now economically/politically/socially to begin the process of reunification in this way.

Foreigners (not just Dennis Rodman) say they are treated kindly and fear their own govt more than American visitors.

According to Billy Graham's wife, who went to high school in Pyongyang said this of her return there for a visit in the 1997:

“Almost nothing remains from my school days here during the 1930s,” she said to her hosts. “But two things have not changed: the beauty of the two rivers that flow through the city of Pyongyang and the warmth and hospitality of the people.”

The Winds of Change are blowing again, this time to the East.

Thank you President Donald J Trump. You and Mr Reagan are the presidential heroes of my lifetime.

“Do you think the US media will follow suit and tone down its anti-US rhetoric?”

Touche!

They have not yet had to face their “Come to Jesus” moment yet, but it is very possible that the 27 leak investigations underway within the DoJ are going to hit the Dem/Media complex hard.

The first indictment was just a couple of weeks ago (James Wolfe, Senate Intel Committee staffer), and it revealed that YEARS worth of electronic communications were collected by search warrant from his reporter/mistress, who was working for the NY Times. The indictment makes it seem probable that similar warrants may have been executed on the other reporters in that indictment (believed to be from CNN, ABC and NBC). That was one of the leak investigations.

It could be an epic election season of indictments and hysteria.

This is one of the signs you would expect, if North Korea was serious about coming in from the cold.
