What I don’t get is Trump’s idea to merger the departments of Education and Labor. Labor and Commerce might make sense, but I don’t see that particular pairing.
They couldn’t get 50 Republican votes for something as mild as $15 billion in take backs. They couldn’t get 40 Republican votes for this.

I would guess that this might be on the legislative agenda after the mid-terms, but it is out there now to start the debate/food fight.
...and it is also a good electoral issue for Republicans.
“a cheese pizza is regulated by the FDA for safety, while a pepperoni pizza is regulated by the Department of Agriculture.”
Yes, Government bureaucracy needs to be pruned back on a regular basis. It is long overdue.
Be nice if we could get term limits in place soon.
Problems with the congress today are related to self interest being more important than nations interest.
With our do nothing Senate and Congress maybe it is time for a change. Face it Obama and Trump both could only get things done by ruling as an Emperor. These politicians are doing nothing and living the high life on taxes payers backs, right Mr. RYAN?
Sounds like the first step might be to bring back the old Department of Health, Education and Welfare; which had been broken out into several new departments.
Labor and education both spend heavily of training programs - no doubt a lot of redundancy, inconsistency and inefficiency.
Here is a dumb question, I’m sure .... why does Congress get a say in how the Executive Branch organizes itself?? It seems to me that any way the Exec wants to organize to “faithfully enforce the nation’s laws” is its prerogative.
Why am I wrong????
About time.

The old Reagan “Cut the Government” issue.
This will play well with voters.
There is no end to the number of horror stories of Government excess, that can be rolled out.
Well that will get them talking!
I would eliminate most of the Federal Government. Most of it is Constitutionally unnecessary.

reorganization faces opposition from congressional committees that could lose power if their jurisdictions change.
Well, there you have it in a nutshell.
The word "Welfare" should be scrubbed.
“.........congressional committees that could lose power if their jurisdictions change.”
Tough sh!t.
Here’s the plan:

. ..I would like to see all The Trumps throw their considerable weight and skills behind the Article 5 Convention of the States.
As John Adams said to his fellow Declaration of Independence delegates... ”it’s a revolution gentleman, somebody has to get pissed off”.
To a certainty, reorganizing the bloated federal government will piss a lot of leachers off!
