Matteo Salvini: Italy’s ports are closed to migrant vessels

Italy’s Matteo Salvini warned Saturday that no NGO-operated ships carrying migrants would be allowed to dock at Italian ports.

“Italy no longer wants to be an accomplice of human traffickers and contribute to the business of illegal immigration,” Matteo Salvini, who leads the far-right League, said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

More than 600 migrants are expected to reach Italian shores on Saturday on board Italian, British and U.S. military ships, according to a statement by the Italian interior ministry cited by La Repubblica.

Salvini’s post specifically targeted NGO-operated two ships flying Dutch flags — which he described as “waiting for their load of human beings abandoned by smugglers” in Libyan waters — and insisted they would not be granted access to Italian ports.

“As a father and as a minister, they can attack and threaten me all they want, but I won’t give up and I’m doing it for everybody’s sake,” Salvini said.

A private German NGO working onboard one of the vessels hit back against Salvini, saying in a tweet “the fascists” were providing them with “advertising.” Salvini promptly replied the assertion was “crazy” and that the “good days” for migrants and charities are over.

The NGO later deleted its original tweet and said,”No, Matteo Salvini is of course not a fascist.”

5Star Infrastructure Minister Danilo Toninelli also weighed in Saturday, tweeting that the Netherlands should “recall the two rescue vessels [because] they are not properly equipped to save lives.”

The main problem is Ceuta which is a Spanish possession in North Africa. Migrants crash over the border and are effectively in Spain. The current government is not going to last.

If they want to call us (including him) ‘Fascists’, then perhaps we start acting as such.

Step 1, sink the boats.

Too bad about Qaddafi in some respects. No excuses for his support for terrorism and him trying to get his hands on Airwolf.

It seemed he had a better plan for economic growth than the former muslim president.

I have noticed for a while that groups can be pure leftist on every issue in the world, but be pro-border protection for their nation, and the media will label them as “far right” on that basis alone.

If Spain’s socialist government gave off the faintest whiff of being anti-illegal immigration and pro-border protection, they’d automatically become “far right” in the leftist lackey media lexicon.

Are you in Spain?

Yes, I retired here in 2016. The Socialist government is new so their impact hasn't had time to sink in. They are making a very bad first impression with all of their moves towards welcoming illegals that they can't afford.

Odd that Spain hasn’t incurred the level of invasion from Africa that Italy has, even though they’re merely a spitting distance away from Africa.

Spain has no social safety net for foreigners. It barely has one for the native born. Migrants do land here on a fairly regular basis but, until now, most headed right for the French border and a free lunch. Even the ones that were allowed to stay weren't allowed to work so the most common jobs you see Africans doing is selling counterfeit merchandise. At one time they did have health care for illegals but the previous government cut that out as a cost saving measure. In that respect America could learn a lot from Spain. They don't try to stop illegal immigration but they make it (or made it until the Socialists took over) so inhospitable that migrants avoided coming here.

I predict that it won't take very long for the people to get sick of this new government. They have enough problems of their own without importing even more. What could happen is that the EU ends up subsidizing Spain to become the official dumping ground for migrants now that Italy has thrown in the towel. They could reap some short term benefits but all they have to do is look at any other European country that has put out the welcome mat to see that it's a long term disaster. I hope they have enough sense to see that Brussels is playing them for fools if they do that.

He was fully cooperating from what I recall.

I’m confident he was assassinated in order to facilitate the inflow of Islam into the West.

Seize these terrorism support ships. Arrest the crews. Sink the ships. Repeat as needed.
