As Nashville Rapidly Expands, Residents Worry the Metropolis Is Growing Too Fast
Wall Street Journal ^

NASHVILLE— Kathleen Ervin moved here 12 years ago from the Northeast, drawn to the relaxed atmosphere, green parks and relatively low cost of living.

But in the past five years, her commute time from her 1950s ranch house in the Glendale neighborhood to her job about 12 miles away has tripled on some days to 45 minutes because of increased traffic. Developers are buying nearby properties, tearing them down and building “tall skinnies”—multistory homes geared toward wealthier home buyers.

“We hear all this talk about how Nashville doesn’t want to become Houston, Nashville doesn’t want to become Atlanta,” said the 54-year-old account manager at a merchant processor. “Who is preventing that from happening?”

Yep. Can’t disagree.

Clarksville(TN) is used to getting people from all over the country and the world. Some stay, most used to go back home.

Now they are deciding to stay. Grrrr.

“I’ve seen it before. As a born and bred Colorado native, I watched as everyone moved in from out of state and then complained at how crowded it became “

Yup, CO has been Californicated. Heck, our Governor and the Denver Mayor (both Democrats, corrupt, and having a combined IQ still in double digits) are well on the way to turning the streets of Denver into sewers. Yup, illegals and bums can take bodacious Obamas in the streets.

Old seventies song.

We are becoming what we used to mock(Big cities)

Unfortunately that comes with growth. It’s either grow or die. No “Happy medium”

Pretty much now from Denton all the way to San Antonio along I-35 it’s nonstop. Eventually it’s all going to meld into one huge Googleplex.

"I think country music is what has spared Nashville so far. "

I keep trying to spread the word that Tennessee and it's native population are "armed and hostile inbred rednecks that are drunk on moonshine and crack who will kill you on sight'

It isn't working. I think they are are to me.(grins)

We drove through Nashville on vacation two years ago; it was a Friday evening, late rush hour, and opening night for the Predators.

Traffic didn’t move a whole lot.

On the other hand, my son went to Nashville for New Years’ Eve this year with his friends and had a great time.

The liberals and illegals have pretty much fouled the Northeast. Now it’s onto the South.

California used to be the "Golden Dream". Sun, surf and skiing in the mountains. Half naked Golden blondes on the beach. Hollywood.

Now all that's ruined. High taxes, crime, feces and hepatitis rampant in the streets. The girls are half silicone or not girls at all.

The liberal "Midas Touch" has ruined everything.

Beware, liberals. The South is a different dog altogether! Starting with: We are armed!

Despite my handle, I hate Dallas. Always loved Fort Worth. To give you an idea, I live near Keller. Used to be a sleepy community with 1 high school. They now have 5, each with 2k+ student pop. No more pastures and farms. Nothing but homes, etc.

I can not believe how fast Huntsville is growing. Traffic is awful. A politician ran on a theme that he would make 72 a highway instead of a parking lot. One article said HSV would soon be the largest city in the state. I read that FB is coming to town in north HSV. I will believe it when I see the building. When we moved here in 1966, the population was about 75,000 and now, the metro is over 600,000.

Didn't make it to Dallas but I have visit Houston.. Back in 86.

Had never seen a six lane highway... Bet it is eight or more now.

And flat!

Lord of mercy, how East Texas was flat. High humidity(Lake Jackson area) And the trees.... if you could call them that, was few and far between. Was happy to return to Tennessee, even if it was through Arkansas.

As you can see I am very biased about my home state. Gotta have my rolling hills full of trees!

She will win. Bredesen can’t escape his leftist record and the fact he would vote to install Schmuck Schumer as Majority Leader. That won’t sell here in Trump Country.

The politics in the city has gone far-left. There hasn’t been a non-leftist Mayor elected since 1971 (ironically, the grandfather of the present far-left Mayor, who would’ve voted for his Black GOP opponent last month).

I visited Huntsville when we were kids. NASA was sending Man to the Moon and everything was about rockets..rockets.. rockets.. Love the ones at Huntsville Space Center. The big Saturn ones lying on its side in parts, seeing those large engines.... wow!. Heddy stuff when you're a wide eyed 10yr old!

Been to Cape Canaveral too but a bit later so not so excited. (Yeah, I know... weird kid)

Cant blame you. Don’t ask me why I’m still here. I love the mountains and cooler temps. Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming are some of my favorite places. Have not explored the Smokey or Appalachians yet. Houston is the armpit of Texas :) hot, humid, and stinky.
