Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen defended the Trump administration’s highly contentious “zero tolerance” immigration-enforcement policy Monday as the inevitable result of congressional inaction on immigration.
“We will not apologize for the job we do or for the job law enforcement does, for doing the job that the American people expect us to do,” Nielsen said during her Monday address to National Sheriffs’ Association in New Orleans. “Illegal actions have and must have consequences. No more free passes, no more get-out-of-jail-free cards.”
Nielsen went on to decry inaccurate media portrayals of the Trump administration’s enforcement policy, which requires the detention and prosecution of all individuals caught crossing the border illegally. The policy has resulted in the separation of roughly 2,000 children from their parents, who are in detention awaiting trial.
The separations have been attacked as immoral by congressional Democrats and a handful of Republicans, who advocate a return to the previous policy of releasing individuals awaiting trial for trying to immigrate illegally with their children. But Nielsen placed blame for family separations squarely on lawmakers, citing legislative inaction on immigration reform as the central obstacle to changing the system. She also suggested that previous administrations are partly to blame for incentivizing child trafficking by providing “free passes” to adults who try to cross the border with children.
“From October 2017 to this February, we have seen a staggering 315 percent increase in illegal aliens fraudulently using children to pose as family units to gain entry into this country,” she said. “This must stop. All this does is put the children at risk. To address these issues we’ve asked Congress to change the law to allow for the expeditious return of unaccompanied children, regardless of their country of origin. We are also asking Congress to allow us to keep families together while they are detained.”
The Faux outrage of the left-
Kids are ‘torn away’ from their LEGAL citizen parents every day in America yet the left aren’t crying about them- Nope- they just cry about ILLEGALS who break the law and have their kids removed from them temporarily while processing takes place-
LEGAL citizens in the US lose custody of their children every single day- their children are ‘ripped away’ from them every day- 1000’s and 1000’s of kids- Yet dems are silent on that- Why? Because courts have a ‘legal right’ to remove kids from parents who commit crimes, are unfit parents, or who abandon them or abuse them-
ILLEGAL citizens are BREAKING THE LAW- and they know damn well they will be separated from the kids when they do so- but they DO NOT CARE about their children. IF they did, they would go through LEGAL procedures to become citizens of this great nation of Ours!
and just like LEGAL citizen parents haver their kids removed when they break the law- ILLEGAL invaders should also have their children removed when they break the law- Why do ILLEGALS get special treatment when our own citizens aren’t afforded such treatment?
A number of prominent liberals — even an ex-Obama admin — waved the cage photos of children in outrage.
The raging liberals wrongfully concluded the cages were Trump's treatment of alien children. But the photo was vintage Obama-era.
IT GETS WORSE-----after Obama locked up children in cages, he issued an order to march the kids to the showers.
To save Obama's Halfrican *** liberals then concocted the fiction that Trump forcibly separated kids from parents.
What group is down South of Mexico but also including the Mexican government, allowing, permitting, encouraging and even in some cases paying people traveling hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles to invade the USA and then demanding to be cared for, for the rest of their lives!
Please - who are these NGOs???

Exactly. Where are these propagandists on the subject of American citizens being separated from their babies once they commit a felony??? Why is there no outcry to let felons bring their children to the penitentiary? Or to acquit anyone who conceived a child?
These kids and their adult companions (whoever they are) don’t belong here and have no legitimate reason to be here.

She's telling Congress, "if you don't like the law then change the law" knowing that they'd rather not put their names behind any legislation that weakens our border.
This is why liberals are so pissed. For the longest time now, liberals and democrats believed that the solution to laws they didn't like was simply to not enforce them. Whether marijuana or illegals, just pretend there aren't any laws and then nobody will have to pay a price.
President Trump doesn't play this game and he's not about to eat a big shit sandwich over it either.
