The first show of the current season was about his visit to West Virginia. I don't have cable, but I found it on the Internet.

It's extremely well done, and amazingly respectful, and comes down solidly on the side of West Virginia deplorables and not New York limousine liberals. It is quite well done and shows West Virginia close to the way it really is. It is amazing the strong defense Bourdain puts up for the people, and politics and culture he encountered.

It is marred by one thing. The production was done and in the can, but before it could be broadcast, CNN made Bourdain insert a minute of pablum about the Las Vegas and Parkland shooting.

The reason for this is that Bourdain was OK with West Virginia gun culture and even had a "blast" himself blowing away pumpkins with an assault rifle.

Anyone interested can find it at Daily Motion: Bourdain in West Virginia S11E1.

Bourdain was a complex character, misguided maybe, but certainly not the enemy. He was open minded, a quality in short supply in the media. The world isn't particularly better because of his passing.

Thanks, my Dad’s family was from WV, but he never would admit it LOL! We are from Ohio!

I have my Grand Uncles Tiple and Fiddle hanging on the living room wall.

Good assessment. I agree he was a complex character. George Webb points out he went to a lot of places that were attractive to intelligent types and that he may have allowed agents on his advanced teams. Was there more going on then we realize?

“...but I found it on the Internet.”

I read it. He was too late. At best a gallows conversion.

For all his faults and weakness.. Bourdain was a better representative of America than Obama.

I am so ashamed of Obama.
