FBI Director Christopher Wray told reporters Thursday afternoon that he was "disappointed" by the findings of the Justice Department office of inspector general's (OIG) report on the bureau's conduct during the 2016 election, saying that the bureau accepted its recommendations.
As far as the report goes, there are some sobering lessons in there, Wray said in a brief press conference held shortly after the 500-page report was made public. Number one, the importance of trying to make sure we avoid even the appearance of bias in all of our work."
But he also voiced support for the integrity of the bureau as an institution, tacitly defending the law enforcement agency from months of broadsides from President Trump and other Republicans who have damned it as corrupt and biased.
The OIG report makes clear that weve got some work to do, Wray said. But lets be clear on the scope of this report. Its focused on a specific set of events back in 2016, and a small number of FBI employees connected with those events.
Nothing in the report impugns the integrity of our workforce as a whole, or the FBI as an institution.

A whole bunch of FBI Agents and Officials Conspired together to Overthrow the United States Government.
And that’ all e has to say??? ARREST ALL OF THEM!!
They are going to hold Bias classes. Maybe the FBI can contact Starbucks and see if they can get the same people.
OK boys and girls, lets go to class where we can learn that bias is bad. Naughty, naughty, no go back out there and get your golf tickets and free dinners.
“Sobering,” as in, one Deep Stater might forgo his fifth gin and tonic tonight.
I am starting to believe the FBI have been liars and cheats for the past 30 years! This cover up only reinforces this opinion.
Assuming the clear bias had no effect on their professional duties (a very big assumption!) even the appearance of impropriety is unprofessional and must be punished. It erodes the public’s confidence in our institutions and rightly so. FBI heads must roll.
Not to worry. Dozens of Good Guy rank and file agents are chomping at the bit to blow the whistle.
This will bring them forward. For sure.
His press meeting was both childish and offensive.
Wray wrapped a protective shield around the criminal operatives using the honorable services regularly performed by the rank and file agents.
Instead of acknowledging the crimes, he marginalized the taxpayers the FBI serves.
The DOJ and the FBI have to go.
If they are not going to held accountable, then they have to go.
I dread saying, 'the Deep State has won' but unless someone in power does something, I don't see things changing.
I'll keep supporting Trump and hope he can break this deadlock but honestly, I'm consumed by angst; the feeling of 'a boot stomping on a human face - forever.'
We elect a guy to clean the swamp and his most important appointee to execute that cleanup is a filthy, despicable swamp denizen.
The FBI and Justice Depeartments need to be burned to the ground. And pigs like this need to be tried and hanged.
Yet another reason why Trump was elected POTUS, and why his approval ratings continue to rise.
The FBI is America’s biggest criminal cabal. Congress should defund the agency and close it down for good. How dare the FBI refer to Trump voters as Pieces of S@#t!
Yup, the FBI has only been a force of good since its inception. The FBI is completely in keeping with those institutions the USA Founding Fathers envisioned. The few bad apples and minor scandals will happen with every agency with an 8 billion dollar per year budget they deign to tell us about.
Freegards
The FBI is hopelessly corrupt and has a decades long track record of domestic political spying. It must be disbanded.
The FBI and Justice Departments need to be burned to the ground. And pigs like this need to be tried and hanged."
Maybe this is one battle lost. But will future battles have any different outcomes with the same players or even different players involved?
I don't want to give up hope but it's getting increasingly difficult to hold on to it.
I suspect it has been much longer than 30 years.
Is this the next hope we're supposed to hold on to? That 'good men' will rise up and set things right?
That's what the IG report was supposed to do.
Can Wray be that thick that he thinks the FBI has an optics problem?
For him to even try to call it a minor optics problem rather than a major abuse of power is outrageous. The FBI in effect tried to overthrow the duly elected POTUS. Hang them.
“Is this the next hope we’re supposed to hold on to? That ‘good men’ will rise up and set things right?”
That post was /s. In reality, I have a better chance of being the next pope.
This was the last chance to rescue the reputation of the FBI and it is being thrown away, all to protect the first black President.
