Two housekeepers in Vermont were hospitalized Wednesday after they unknowingly ate marijuana edibles that were left behind by guests at Shelburne Farms, police said.
The housekeepers, who have not been identified, decided to taste what they believed to be be malted milk balls placed in a box labeled “salted caramel chocolates,” Shelburne police told the Burlington Free Press.
Shortly after, both employees fell ill -- one of whom was so sick she was found “lying in the inn’s driveway,” the newspaper reported.

The LD50 of THC is about 1/10 that of alcohol.
I think the only reason we don’t see more OD deaths is that the THC is dilute enough in joints that it makes consuming a lethal dose challenging.
Look, I already know you reject scientific evidence if it contradicts your narrative that marijuana is perfectly safe.
If there is an LD50 in rats, it is not very different from the LD50 in humans. And do you really think that we are going to test LD50s in humans?
There have been deaths due to THC, and with the increased usage that results from legalization, the death toll will increase. Not that I really care about the deaths; the people who are permanently brain damaged and become permanent (costly) burdens on society due to addiction are a far greater problem.
That still was wrong... I’d relegate anything found in a room to lost-and-found unless an obvious tip.
Others though will be satisfied to stay at home living out their senior years with a nip or two of pot from time to time. Agenda pushers tend not to look at big pictures.

You grind it up, simmer in a double boiler with butter or olive oil, and then strain the residue with a small strainer.
Then you can use the butter in brownies or to cook eggs and if you made olive oil pot you can put it on salads.

That would be about 1 ounces of pure THC (about 28 grams) - the THC equivalent of about 750 joints. LD50 of alcohol is 13 shots (in 15 minutes), or 19.5 oz of 80 proof liquor (about 8 ounces of pure alcohol). The ratio between effective dose and lethal dose is dramatically higher for marijuana, making accidental death much less likely.
The Merck Index lists the LD50 (dosage of a certain chemical which will kill half of a population given that dosage) of pure THC to be 42 mg per kg of body weight for rats when the THC is inhaled. LD50 for monkeys is 129 mg/kg (about three times higher). Assume we have a 75kg person (165 lbs) and that this monkey LD50 also applies to humans, that gives us 9,675mg or about 10 grams, which is more like the equivalent of around 270 joints (in about 15 minutes).
With marijuana itself, it does not seem feasible to take a lethal dose, but with 80-90% THC extracts (apparently, distillation methods can now produce better than 99% pure THC) it would be more feasible. I don't know if passing out would self-limit administration that way. I would guess that most people would pass out (or just forget what they were doing) before taking so much.
The oral LD50 of pure THC is 666 mg/kg in rats. So if it is the same for people, that would mean a 165 lb man eating about 50 grams of pure THC, or maybe thre times as much if the same rough ratio exists between rats and monkeys (and presumably humans). That would mean eating about 5 ounces of pure THC, or about 6 ounces of the commonly available highly concentrated oils.
Bottom Line: With marijuana itself it seems unlikely to get a fatal dose of THC, but with concentrates, the LD50 is probably a few hundred (up to 1,000) times the effective dose (within about 15 minutes).

These housekeepers weren’t “innocent”. They are supremely guilty of gross stupidity and no law can protect a person who is that stupid. Who the hell eats unknown stuff from an unknown person that got left behind in a hotel room?
