After frenzied late-night negotiations, Speaker Paul D. Ryan defused a moderate Republican rebellion on Tuesday with a promise to hold high-stakes votes on immigration next week, thrusting the divisive issue onto center stage during a difficult election season for Republicans.
The move by Mr. Ryan, announced late Tuesday by his office, was something of a defeat for the rebellious immigration moderates, who fell two signatures short of the 218 needed to force the House to act this month on bipartisan measures aimed more directly at helping young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.
Instead, the House is most likely to vote on one hard-line immigration measure backed by President Trump and conservatives — and another more moderate compromise bill that was still being drafted, according to people familiar with the talks.

I think Congress should MOVE to the border, and only then would sane immigration policy return.
These RINO rats most are from CA and NY think if they give citizenship to illegals that will get them elected. The problem with that theory in that their base will not come out and they will get zero democratic votes. The only reason these clowns keep their seat in 2016 is Trump and his policies and citizenship for illegals not one of his policies. I guess the new way to win is do everything possible to make sure you base does not turn out. Republicans have to be the dumbest people on earth and these people will get killed in 2018. I forgot Ryan is doing everything possible to make sure that republicans lose the House that the CC BR want.
The conservative immigration bill will not pass because the 23-25 Republicans and 100% of the democrats will vote against it all with Ryan’s leadership. The democratic bill and citizenship will pass with the same people that voted against the conservative bill. These Repub think that voting with Democrats and citizenship will get them reelected in CA NY. That will be hard to do without your base. Don’t think that dems will be flocking to vote Repub
