America's Europe Problem
American Thinker ^ | June 12, 2018 | Peter Skurkiss

What with President Trump blowing up the recently concluded G-7 summit in Canada, it is likely that the Europeans now know that Trump's 'Make America Great Again' rhetoric is not idle talk.

This is a shock for Europe, especially with the G-7 meeting coming soon after America's imposition of steel and aluminum tariffs and its withdrawal from the Obama-Iran nuclear deal.

It is hard for Europeans to believe that America is willing to depart from the script of the last 70 years.

This is a shock for Europe

I felt European once, Dad stopped giving me an allowance and told me to go mow yards.

The Trump Doctrine. It’s perfect. Short and snappy. Guaranteed to make leftist heads explode.

Good analysis. And it reminds me of a favorite Bible verse: “Cast not thy pearls before swine lest they trample them underfoot, then turn on you and tear and rend you.”

So, no doubt someone has cornered the T-shirt franchise already.

Shouldn’t the headline more accurately be “Europe’s America Problem??”. Europe needs the US one hell of a lot more than America needs Europe.

From their vantage point, Europe thinks America is too confrontational, too militaristic, and too dangerous. Time and time again, Europe has shown a high tolerance towards malevolent states whereas the U.S. hasn’t. This history stretches back from the USSR in the Cold War and Iraq’s Saddam Hussein to the mullahs in Iran today.

Actually, it goes back to 1939.

The Euros have been sucking off our teat while backstabbing us at the same time ever since the Marshall Plan ended.

Consider the Japanese. They launched a sneak attack on our Navy, and we used the world’s most horrible weapon on them. Twice.

Yet today they are better friends and allies than any European country (from whom we have the right to expect a whole lot more).

We bailed your asses out of 2 wars... rebuilt you from the ashes, and let you live under the blanket of our protection for more than 70 years.... And in that time you have let your militaries become farces, created dependency states, and welcomed a new horde of barbarians into your countries....

Being an Allie, does not mean being a sugar daddy. Europe needs to man up... and it was never going to do it as long as the US was there to coddle them.

He hits the nail on the head. The divergence we’re seeing between the interests of Europe and the USA is inevitable and would be happening no matter who we elected but with President Trump it’s being better managed and accelerated and I’m all for it. It’s well past time for Europe to grow up and move out of our basement.

It’s Europe’s Europe problem - dependency on America.

“Actually, it goes back to 1939.”

Goes way back further. They were shocked when Jefferson attacked the Barbary Pirates rather than pay a penny in tribute...as the Europeans all did.

I agree that the headline could be reversed. It’s really Europe that has the problem, not us. We’re America, bitches!

He sees what many of us see. The Europeans have become infantilized. Out of envy/spite they take a perverse delight in biting the hand that feeds them. Their aim is to tie America down Gulliver-like in a web of so-called “international law” (there’s no such thing) and various organizations. They desperately want us to accept that we need some kind of permission slip from these organizations which they have a great deal of influence over before we act.

The relationship has long since become unhealthy. We should have brought the boys home and withdrawn from NATO at the end of the Cold War. Now it’s long overdue. It’s time for them to grow up - or face the consequences.

P.S. notice how Eastern Europe is not like this at all. Notice how the U.K. is not like this nearly as much.

I bought a bratwurst & Coke at a Schnell-Imbiss; they handed me a warm can of Coke. But then told me I could get a cup of ice at the nearby McDonalds where by golly they gave it to me free.

Anyway, I always laugh at gun grabbers here who solemnly intone that “Europeans are laughing at America & its lax gun laws & cannot fathom Americans’ fascination with guns”.

With a few exceptions (Poland, Hungary, Czech Rep.) the Europeans’ opinion of the U.S. means zero to me.
