What do you expect them to do? This is Connecticut, one of the deepest “blue” states in the U.S. I’m sure their progressive brains short-circuited over this conundrum. LOL.

This was answered in another thread. Parents did do something years ago and judges ruled against them. Now the worst-case scenarios are coming to pass. People will do whatever it takes to win if the rules and the laws allow it.
