Yes and no. The truth is he received a much harsher sentence than most who refused to serve in the war. I don’t agree with him or his logic, but it does seem to me that compared to other white, middle class “conscientious objectors” who wouldn’t do government service (and got about 18 months), he was unfairly penalized.
