Canada is part of the British Monarchy. They did indeed burn down the Whitehouse in 1814 which was an action of the War of 1812.
Canada wasnt even an independent country then, they were a British colony as we had recently (at that time) been. Canadians were generally northern-living Loyalists at that time. And yes, British forces made up with a significant number of British subjects from the colony of Canada were involved in the action that led to the burning of the White House.
Britain captured our trade ships, confiscated the cargo and compelled our sailors to serve on the Limey ships.
They were wrong. 110%.
And since then have fought beside us in two world wars, the Korean War, the Cold War, twice in Iraq and once in Afghanistan. If Trudeau's intent was to show that Canada is hardly a security risk then I think they've done that.
Agreed, Canada always had a governor general, the queens rep in that British colony.
Does not matter if the invaders were from the British empire or mercenaries. The troops left what is now called nova scotia, landed on us soil, and burnt down the capitol.
Therefore, Canada was a bona fide threat, and could be a future threat.
