Der Spiegel magazine has aggravated tensions between Germany and Italy with a contemptuous article accusing the Italians of being ungrateful moochers who are pulling Europe into a crisis reminiscent of Greeces.
In Rome, populists with their anti-euro course seriously endanger the European project, Der Spiegel announces in this weeks issue. They are dragging their country and Europe into the next big crisis after the Greek drama and the Brexit decision.
The scornful cover depicts spaghetti twirled on a fork, hanging down in the shape of a noose, with the caption Ciao Amore: Italy is destroying itself and dragging down Europe with it.

The truth hurts.
I think Hitler said the same thing.
They say it like it's a bad thing ...
Anyone who’s read about the Tower of Babel ought to know that the EU is based on an unworkable concept.
germans are ignorant fools. They are allowing their queen, murkul, to destroy the country by bringing in millions of bammy’s buddies who will rape the women and kill the men.
On a per capita basis, it is false.
But we aren’t talking per capita, are we? We are talking public debt. Italy’s mouth is writing checks its butt can’t cash. When Italy wants to cut its government spending in order to stand on its own two feet, so to speak, get back to me. But I won’t hold my breath while I wait. In the meantime, the EU has Italy by Italy’s short hairs. And Italy has only itself to blame.
They should be able to live and work the way they choose.
The Germans are more than happy to put a lien on Italian futures and the only Italians that signed up for this are the puppet politicians.
Clearly it's a bad marriage and separation appears the only solution.
So, what did they call the maniacal murdering mozlums?
It’s a prob cuz Italy wants to do it in somebody else’s £, capisce? :-)
Somebody else’s :-)
The Germans have become self loathing. Its quite a shame and a disgrace what Germany has turned into.
But we arent talking per capita, are we?
I certainly was.
When Italy wants to cut its government spending in order to stand on its own two feet, so to speak, get back to me.
That is not the path out of this.
But I wont hold my breath while I wait. In the meantime, the EU has Italy by Italys short hairs. And Italy has only itself to blame.
The EU is the one being held. It you owe a bank thousands, it is your problem, if you owe a bank billions, its the banks problem.
They know if Italy defaults, it will be tragic for the EU. To Italy, it will be freedom. In fact, leaving the euro, printing its own currency, and likely default, is the only way out.
I think it is Italy that has Merckle by the short hairs.

I’m not sure what the European Left thinks they’ll accomplish by MAKING IT PERSONAL for Italians - maybe starting a new war there? But crap like this only INCENSES people...it doesn’t cause them to moderate.
I always tell people that the reason Trump was able to pull ahead and win the Republican nomination is not because of what he said the day he kicked off his campaign (i.e., Mexican rapists...), it was the REACTION of other Republicans to him - which was that he was a jerk and therefore his issues have no merit. That was all I needed to line up squarely behind Trump from Day 1.
As I’ve noted several times before here, I would have advised my hypothetical candidate, say Scott Walker to say something like: “While I think that Mr. Trump may go a bit far in what he says, we do have a huge problem with immigration, particularly illegal immigration, and building a wall may well be the best option on our Southern Border”. Instead, the reactions from virtually every other candidate was something like “Trump’s a dick and therefore I’m not going to discuss immigration”. To put it another way, they SELF-CLEARED the field for Trump on that issue, the #1 issue to the Republican base.
So here we see it again. If Germany and the Left over there really wanted to keep Italy in the EU, the PROPER response would be something like: “Italy has a very large coastline and has legitimate concerns regarding the huge number of refugees fleeing north. We will work with Italy to help alleviate their concerns.”
But nope - treat them like crap...so don’t be surprised when they start their own Brexit.
Ungrateful moochers, huh?
It sounds like some NATO countries that won’t pay their fair share for defense of the alliance and relies on Uncle Sam “Sugar” to do all the heavy lifting.
Then they tut-tut and criticize every time the USA uses that military force.
I dunno. Can some one identify those countries for me?
Stugotz
This is particularly hilarious coming from the Germans who have been mooching from America for generations to provide for their national defense.
