The Manafort Tampering Allegation (No Evidence)
Lawfare ^ | June 6, 2018 | Paul Rosenzweig

Posted on 06/06/2018 3:26:16 PM PDT by Titus-Maximus

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has accused Paul Manafort of attempted witness tampering. If the allegations are true, Manafort will have violated the conditions of his release and might have his bail revoked. Judge Amy Berman Jackson has scheduled a hearing on the matter for late next week.

I yield to no one in my disdain for President Trump. And I certainly have no brief for Manafort, who has been accused of laundering tens of millions of dollars from sources connected with Russia and the Ukraine. Thus my overall assessment is that Manafort has some significant legal exposure and that, given his role in the Trump presidential campaign, that exposure is of concern to Trump and of interest to the special counsel.

All that said, I think that the special counsel's allegations of witness tampering are rather ... thin. The FBI agent's declaration in support of the allegations is long on detail about what Manafort and the "Hapsburg Group" did before the elections and short on information about the tampering allegation itself. Drill down into the exhibits and you will see that only one, Exhibit N, is evidence of communications between Manafort and the witnesses he is alleged to have contacted in a tampering effort.

He and Comey made careers out of blowing things out of proportion and prosecuting people over minor things that normally are a stretch legally.

Persecution indeed. The man is the Inquisitor that the Bill of Rights was written to stop.

‘Judge Amy Berman Jackson’

That’s all you need to know, right there.

Sounds to me like Mueller is obstructing Managfort’s right to prepare his defense. He needs to indict himself.

Mueller, Comey and a long list of people in the Obama Administration have turned the United States Department of Justice into a “hit squad” with Abuse-of-Process being the kindest way to characterize it.

This did not start with Obama but Holder understood it best and showed Obama how to capitalize on it. The DOJ knew what fools they looked like in the Clinton criminality and during the end of Clinton’s terms and through the Bush terms they began a process around Enron, Arthur-Anderson and what followed of always misusing and overplaying the DOJ. We saw it plainly in Martha Stewart and Senator Ted Stevens. There was little outcry as Stevens was not well liked outside Alaska and Stewart was thought to be privileged.

Isn’t this why we found out today that Mueller is demanding access to the cell phones of witnesses? He wants to check for encrypted messages, ostensibly from Manafort, don’t you all think?

Is that like the Clintons’ history of bribing and threatening witnesses?

Mueller’s victims need to start forcing him to take this garbage to trial. Let’s see what you’ve got, Bobby. Witness lists, documents, let’s get some depositions scheduled.

The thing with Bobby is, he’s a pretty crappy lawyer. Look at his history. The last thing he wants to do is take his imaginary cases to trial.

He’s just a bully and it’s past time his victims pushed back. They’ll get lawyers if they need them. There’s nothing a lawyer likes more than free publicity.

One of the layers on Bobby’s team is the guy who took a hammer to Hillary’s Blackberries.

I think it possible Mueller (and Roseweasel) was deeply enough involved in Uranium One to go to prison if that investigation goes to completion. Getting Trump impeached is his last an only shot at avoiding those consequences.
