Joe Manchin: Supporting Hillary Clinton in 2016 'was a mistake politically'
Washington Examiner ^ | June 6, 2018 | by Naomi Lim

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said Wednesday he regretted endorsing failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, adding he would be "open" to throwing his weight behind President Trump's 2020 re-election bid.

“I’m open to supporting the person who I think is best for my country and my state. If his policies are best, I’ll be right there,” Manchin told Politico Wednesday.

“I’m with him sometimes more than other Republican senators are with him,” he continued later in the interview. “A lot of the policies he’s done [have] been good for the state.”

Manchin recalled how Clinton asked him whether she could campaign in West Virginia in 2016 so she could explain her comments about wanting “to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”

"I said, ‘That’s a bad idea, you shouldn’t come,’” Manchin remembered.

“It was a mistake. It was a mistake politically,” he said, referring to his support of Clinton.

Democrat, Senator, Joe Manchin, two faced buffoon that he is, can remedy his problem with one swift move.....become a member of the Republican Party like right this minute, no this second, and swear his allegiance and loyalty to the Republican Party & POTUS, Donald J. Trump, forever.

Anything less then that, and Joe Manchin will no longer be a U.S. Senator after this coming November. We are waiting Senator, Manchin. Are you or, are you not going to change your political party affiliation?

He’ll say and do anything to win.

His polling numbers must be underwater.

Trump is enormously is popular in WVA,so GOP gains will continue.

It's much too late for that. We had our primary; the game is on. The execrable Manchin chose his side (the demonicRAT party) and he's stuck with it.

PATRICK MORRISEY FOR US SENATE!!!

Accept no substitutes.

Why doesn’t he switch parties?

I don't know why, but it seems like timing is a factor. He missed a chance to do so earlier -- maybe because he thought Clinton would win the presidential election. And now that he's running as a Democrat he can't switch now.

I suspect he may be like a gambler who keeps placing the same bet - maybe for sentimental reasons - and expecting that he will win if he just keeps at it.

If his bet comes through - Dems in control of everything - he's in the front of the line for perks and stuff. If he jumps to the GOP, he's at the end of the line. So maybe it's not just sentimentalism and nostalgia that keeps him a Democrat.

Geez ... keep digging Manchin.

A “mistake politically”? So that means you only think of it as a mistake because it backfired politically, not because you backed the wrong values and wrong candidate?

It still had a Democrat statehouse, Congressional delegation and both Sentence seats.

The state has undergone a sea change in two decades even as it went GOP in presidential elections.

WVA is the OK of the Appalachians.

All true ... the change began in the late 1990s, and first showed up in 2000. In the last election, we shared with Oklahoma the distinction of ZERO counties voting for the Hildebeeste. The execrable Manchin is the last holdout.

Right.

Both states have conservative Democrats who vote Republican.

All Morrisey has to do is run an ad with the clip of Manchin starting to stand up at the SOTU speech and then quickly sitting back down. Schumer ownes him

Gosh, I had no idea being a Senator was so easy.
Say anything you want and then change your mind 6 months later.

I think Joe is nervous about his own reelection chances.

How do you play both ends against the middle, trying to be a good Democrat, but hinting at support of Trump?

Trump won West Virginia by something like 40 points. The state is increasingly Republican. Joe’s got a tough road ahead.

This clown couldn’t even manage to vote for the Trump tax cuts. What’s his excuse for that?

We lost AZ when Obonzo sent his gerrymandering Gaystapo to AZ to gerrymander the state so the commie ‘RATS and their illegals could win some elections. Arizona’s districts are a joke.
