Gavin Newsom and John Cox advance to November election in California's governor's race
CNN ^

CNN projected Republican John Cox will finish in the top two, and advance to the general election in the California governor’s race.

Cox, a San Diego businessman, was endorsed by President Trump. Republicans feared they could be shut out of the governor’s race in November, which could have depressed GOP voter turnout and adversely affected the party's congressional candidates.

Former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was attempting a political comeback in the race, but will fall short of making the general election.

If you don’t care what anyone says that explains why you think the GOP can win statewide in Cali

Hillary won by 20 points
Feinstein by 23 points last go around
Obama by 22 points last time

I guess it’s possible in a state with nearly twice as many Democrats registered as Republicans

But what a long shot...not as bad as Massachusetts or Rhode Island

Coincidentally....California is second only to Texas for number of registered GOP

We need more Korean-American Republicans stepping up. Especially on local races.

The president may be able to help bring Koreans into the party if the summit turns out as well as we hope.

I live here and know that a lot of “Democrats” really are not that liberal and increasingly less so as time wears on and as the Party centers itself aeound transgenderism and illegal immigration.

We also have a lot of registered independents.

People from every party are sick of the homeless crisis in LA/SF, our crumbling infrastructure, etc...

And also people underestimate: Christian religion is big here. Especially in immigrant communities. Both Evangelicalism and Catholicism. As I said in a prior thread, on the same day that Obama won, gay marriage could not pass as a voter Proposition in California. The courts had to intervene to make it legal.

Fun fact: Fox News’ Kimbeley Guilfoyle was once married to Gavin Newsome.

The Democrats and the GOP have advanced to the final round in November.

That development bodes well for GOP prospects of keeping the House in mid-term elections.

Indeed! To be capable of marrying a conservative... It makes me want to think that he may have some good sense left in him somewhere...but...no.

Rumor has it Trump Jr. is now dating Guilfoyle....

Hispanics don’t vote their Catholicism

The amnesty wars here in 2004-2007 had Howlin and Dane and Sinkspur aping Bushie speak with that same logic that Hispanics are Catholic and surely they will vote their religious morality

Same morality that has 55 percent illegitimacy and 51 percent of first generation Hispanics on welfare etc even after 20 years

Blacks in rural areas also are Christian and do church for 3-4 hours on Sunday

But neither group takes that to the ballot booth

I wish they did dear....I love California....I plan to be in LA within a month for business....

It’s gotten even worse than that. Today Brown signed a bill dictating how much water each of us can use daily both in and out of our homes (interior use limit and another defined exterior—landscape etc—use limit.) Anything that exceeds that small standard gets a MAJOR financial hit. I read today that interior standard does not allow for doing a load of laundry and showering in the same day. Wonder how many more Republican voters there would have been had the clarity of that bill’s passing and what exactly it entailed for each household would have been. The Republicans in California AND Trump need to exploit this to the highest. This level of fascism is beyond concerning.

Ling Ling Chang Repub. Female (born in Taiwan) looks to be the winner of the Newman Recall. Seems to me at least until Nov. that should bust up the Rat State Senate super majority.

You have a lot of Freepers in denial about CA’s demographic and political reality.

They keep thinking liberals will change voting behavior to suit them.

Not going to happen and people who delude themselves into thinking Cox can beat Newsom will be in for a ride Awakening in November.

The state is corrupt, it’s like a Third World she*thole and Democrats have run it into the ground and still people keep on voting for them.

It’s hopeless and things won’t change in CA for decades.
