And therein lays the problem. "Fiscal conservative" Ahnuld spent zillions of taxpayers money on a "special election", trying to drag people out to the polls when there wasn't an election already scheduled. The unions handily defeated him in getting "their people" to the polls.
Had Ahnuld simply not wasted taxpayers money and waited around a few months later until a REGULAR ELECTION to put his referendums on the ballot, he wouldn't have needed to beg voters to show up, and would have had a better chance of passing reforms.
Incredibly, even AFTER Ahnuld insisted on a "special election" and got his butt whupped (then said he "learned his lesson" not to do that), he nevertheless decided to push for ANOTHER "special election" a few years years later to pass MORE "emergency reforms" (all of which, not supremely, went down to defeat AGAIN)
