Not if you live in the Northern New England Free Zone and have to travel south of Maryland.

Take I-84 west across CT into New York, then down through Port Jervis to the Scranton area. You can pick up I-81 there and take it all the way down along the eastern side of the Appalachians to Tennessee without setting foot in New Jersey.
