The top priority for Democrats pushing back against President Donald Trump is gaining control of at least one branch of Congress this year, but they're also focused on a pivotal seat lower on the ballot state attorney general.
The top state law enforcement position comes with a political weapon Democrats have wielded 47 times since Trump took office: They have sued the administration as a way to halt policies they regard as unconstitutional or otherwise harmful. Attorneys general have gone to court over immigration, the environment, birth control and internet regulation, among other issues. That's a key reason the races are starting to gain attention and money.
"No one is above the law, not even the president of the United States," said Sean Rankin, executive director of the Democratic Attorneys General Association. "That's the cornerstone message."
How well that works as a selling point will be tested in some of the same swing states that also are key to presidential elections. Among them are Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Nevada and Ohio, which Democrats are targeting as possible pickups because the current Republican attorneys general are not running again.
They also are targeting Republican incumbents in Arizona and Wisconsin as well as in heavily Republican Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia in an effort to add to their total of 23 attorneys general. In all, 30 states and the District of Columbia will have elections for attorney general this year.
Yet for all the pushback against Trump...

It used to be the Secretaries of State, now it’s the Attorneys General.
$orass Creep.
the nearly endless list of states’ lawsuits against the obama administration has vanished down the MSM memory hole.
The left always runs to the courts to get their otherwise unpassable agenda rammed down our throats.
There is a simple solution: NEVER, EVER VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT!
The Laws arent Unconstitutional, they are simply harmful to the Dems policies and agenda. Period.
Whatever happened to the left-wing Secretary of State Project liberals promised would save our elections from the dirty tricks of those dang lowdown, yellow-bellied, lily-livered Republicans?
The evidence now suggests that the election-stealing, George Soros-funded so-called 527 political committee is dead, or perhaps just deeply sedated. This group that section 527 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code allows to accept unlimited financial contributions was created solely to rig elections for Democrats.
It accomplishes this by electing permissive liberal Democrats as secretaries of state. In most states the secretary of state is the chief elections officer, so putting left-wingers in the often-overlooked but critically important office allows these political radicals to manipulate the electoral process. This is what liberals call election protection.
Billionaire donor Soros, whom Saturday Night Live has mocked as the owner of the Democratic Party, underwrote the Secretary of State Project in order to help Democrats gain an unfair advantage on Election Day. Soros and progressives all across the fruited plain believe with a religious fervor that right-leaning secretaries of state helped the GOP steal the presidential elections in Florida in 2000 (Katherine Harris) and in Ohio in 2004 (Ken Blackwell).

Both positions are crucial to how the state is run. With a leftist governor (such as Minnesota), the Secy of State there, Mark Ritchie, operated with an iron Marxist hand. See www.keywiki.org for his red background connections.
Soros will be involved in funding leftist AGs and SecState people. Perhaps outside money should be outlawed for state elections, or at least investigations opened into who from the outside is interfering on the inside.
Democrat Roy Cooper used his position as Attorney General in North Carolina to undermine GOP Governor Pat McCrory during the period before the 2016 election when the infamous North Carolina bathroom law was prominent in the national and state news. Cooper, running for governor, narrowly defeated McCrory. The accusations of voter fraud in Durham County, where extended polling hours and late counting of returns gave Attorney General Cooper the margin of victory.
Attorney General is a key state position and a stepping stone to the office of governor. If the RNC is not focused on retaining AG jobs, imagine what will happen in the 2020 election.
