I think the Prime Minister needs to park his ego and get a deal done, says Zekelman, referring to negotiations for a North American Free Trade Agreement. The Canadian-born billionaire wants Trudeau to agree to a U.S. demand for a five-year sunset clause on NAFTA. They have the world's largest economic engine and if we think we're going to swat them around, its not going to happen, says Zekelman.

Meanwhile, in US Anti-Trump Media Bizzarro World, they are saying exactly the opposite.
Trump is fooling himself if he thinks he is going to impose tariffs that are retaliation- free and do not harm American consumers.
Short-term.
In the long-term, a much better deal favors everyone.
Tariffs will raise money via taxes, only. It incentivizes buying US goods.
It will hurt those who dont buy US goods and drive up demand for local goods, temporarily increasing their cost until new shifts are put in place at factories here.
Whats not to love?
I don’t think President Trump is fooling himself at all; Trudeau needs to get his act together—but I doubt that he will.
If Canada wants to “retaliate,” let them do so. Poo.
Where I work, we lost jobs to a Canadian company, that was selling the parts, for less than we could buy, the raw material for. So now Canada wants to retaliate for us figuring out that their government subsidies we not fair?
Carrots and sticks. It’s all about carrots and sticks.
Trade War!
Or, Negotiate with President Trump and Implement 'Fair Trade' Policies
Choose wisely!
Actually, in the article, Zekelman states that there is "no question" that some production will be shifted.
And once again the President is correct
And you are fooling yourself if you think the craptastic trade agreements of the last thirty years have done anything other than harm America and its workers
He is directly warning about moving production, but I don't see that production moving to the USA. If they're going to move, they will go where costs are significantly lower. Unless there is a ready to go production facility they can buy here, that's probably not the USA. Maybe Trump can come up with incentives for them to come here, the carrot to go with the stick...
Our corrupt State Dept and our crooked politicians have gotten us into rotten trade “deals” for decades. Eff Canada and every other bunch of looters and moochers.
Yeah! Imposing tariffs on US goods will really screw Trump! Haha. Once the Canadian consumer sees their prices (which are already higher than US prices due to taxes for all that”free” healthcare) rise, they’ll be screaming for Trudeau to cut a deal.
The American Consumer you say these tarif’s will hurt are the exact same people that these foreign made products have cost them their jobs. Your only able to be a consumer if you have employment.
YOU are fooling yourself if you think Trump isn’t going to come out on top for the US. Tariffs built this country. We are the world’s largest consumer. Time we reminded our so-called “friends” they can no longer dictate to us.
“Trump is fooling himself if he thinks he is going to impose tariffs that are retaliation- free and do not harm American consumers.”
1. Trump’s tariffs ARE the retaliation.
B. It may slightly and temporary hurt consumers but will HELP workers.
3. Trump is NOT fooling himself, you’re the only one fooling yourself.
“The American Consumer you say these tarrifs will hurt are the exact same people that these foreign made products have cost them their jobs. Your only able to be a consumer if you have employment.”
Good point.
Keep in mind, you can still consume:
If you’re a welfare recipient.
A government worker.
Those two groups will be hit the hardest, because they will have to pay higher prices for goods without the simultaneous higher wages that tariffs produce for WORKERS.
Go play checkers, Socon-Econ, Trump is playing chess. The declaration to impose sanctions is the first step in getting folks like Canada to the table to negotiate FAIR trade, and get the US out of ridiculous anti-American trade deals. If Canada doesn't comply, they will lose the economic battle.
