You read correctly. However they said President George W. Bush declined to declare June as Pride Month, and it was not until the election of Barack Obama that the tradition started again.

My point is that you can not call something done twice a "tradition".

So far if anything it is a democrat tradition. Republicans have a equally long and proud tradition of ignoring it.
