Why Are People Angry About Trump’s Steel Tariffs – And What Do They Mean For Us? ( UK dumping)
Huff post UK ^ | 6-1-2018 | Sara Nelson

The industry body UK Steel said that, with exports to America worth half a billion dollars a year, producers in Britain would be “hit hard”.

Employees at the giant Port Talbot steelworks in Wales have described the move as “another body blow.”

Mark Turner, who works at Tata, the company that owns the Welsh steelworks, said there is a major worry that the UK steel market will become saturated if other countries subject to the charges end up “dumping” their steel into Britain, pushing prices down.

He added: “Our biggest concern is dumping. The American markets are going to be closed to everybody, there’s going to be steel that’s going to be floating around and our markets in the UK are going to be at the heart of that dumping

I think President Trump is the first President in my lifetime to act in the interests of Americans first.

It’s about damn time we had someone like him in charge!!!

I noticed the price of scrap metal has gone up a bit. I hope it continues to go up because I have a lot of scrap metal on my property that needs to go. Back when it was .15 a pound we tore down and cleaned up an old 2-story barn that was dilapidated. It had been covered over with tin and we made out very well hauling it to the scrap yard instead of the dump.

Dollar for dollar you assholes. You tax the hell out of the stuff we send you, then we tax the hell out of the stuff you send us.

Until you learn fair trade practices you all can go...eff yourselves.

Oh! One other thing to them SOBs. Go ahead and tax the grain and food imports from us. See how well that goes.

Europe and the UK cant feed themselves properly and they DAM well know it.

WW2, and after, proved that in the UK.

And it is not just the Brits. Look back to the San Fran bay bridge upgrade project. That was Chinese steel if my memory is not gone/wrong.

Also, there have been some rust problems with some of the bolts/nuts/?

$crew the Eurotrash and their left wing/PC Brits, who kill infants with their healthcare. Then they arrest those complaining about the murder of babies.

“Has Chinese metal been labeled as European/Canadian and then reshipped here?”

Best question of the day and maybe with all the bs on steel and our tariffs.

So if other countries aren't allowed to dump in the US, they are going to dump in the UK? That's an admission that the US is being dumped on.

Guess you better get busy on some tariffs of your own.

Yeah.. and despite promises Trump could not build the Keystone pipeline with American steel, the best he could do is add a clause to the contract that ‘repairs’ would be done going forwards with American steel.

A question, to hopefully spur discussion:

Cheap Chinese steel is fairly easy to understand.

How is it that the UK / Western Euro’s can produce steel and ship it here for less than WE can produce it?

(I have guesses / suspicions, but have not had time to research them.)

“They aren’t stupid people, they’re just ignorant and set in their ideology.”

Actually, they are very stupid since they decide to live their lives through fear and ignorance.

Your discussion of China’s regulations and tariffs, among others (Euros, Canada) is key. That is not to say we don’t have tariff and regulations on incoming goods — in many cases we do. But the “difference” is sometimes staggering.

Trump should cite a specific example every damn day.

That beats what we had. Our steel manufacturers were beat down so bad I had no idea we had any left?
