Facebook is doing away with the controversial "Trending" news section next week, the company announced on Friday.
Why it matters: The section, which it introduced in 2014, was meant to help users get an easy view of the top news during the day, but Facebook says that it ultimately drove less than 1.5% of clicks to publishers on average. The feature has also come under fire more than once most heavily in 2016, when Gizmodo reported on the human curators' practices and raised charges that the social network suppressed conservative news.

I never used it anyway. I get all the trending news I need on FR.
Trying to be a news source was not a good decision by Facebook IMO
Better than censoring it.
Facebook is trending downward into the bin of history.
If the TRENDING NEWS can't be fair, I guess no one can have it lol
I'm wondering if it isn't just the opposite. FB hosts sites for FR (still there, from when FR was down last year), CSPAN topics of discussion, and another I frequent that gets into discussions of issues. FB does not sway viewpoints in discussions that occur.
I wonder if FB should've gone the opposite way. Set up their own news service with reporters and follow sound principles of objective journalism with their own reporting. Zuckerberg acknowledged in the DC hearings that the problem with bias had to do with his SF-centric staff. If he'd fix that, he could set up one heck of a news agency.
Especially now that the IG report is imminent and all sorts of bad news for the Leftists. Easier to censor news this way.
Too much Trump Success in Fixing America news for them to stomach ?
Too many people just not falling for their leftist propaganda efforts and proving America doesn’t want their kind of leftist future.
CENSOR IT
Its what leftists ALWAYS do to try to hide the truth.
Trending? Trending my @$$. Its nothing but pushing left wing/democraparty/hateTrump articles at the user.
I’ve never even seen it.
I wish they would get rid of the “PEOPLE YOU MAY KNOW” section. My response to these is...WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?
I’ve tried to block them, report them as SPAM, but they keep popping back up.
It is/was a nuisance to have to keep telling your page settings to use “most recent” sort order instead of “trending” in viewing your timeline. Facebook set the constant default to “trending”, which you had to reset back to “most recent” with each new session.
It shouldn’t have been called “Trending News” anyway. “Liberal News” is more accurate.
Sadly, the IG report’s not all that imminent.
HMMM, similar to me dumping facebook.
I ignore everything FB pushes.
I noticed that, too.
Some of the "trending" articles were from small, very biased left wing sources, like Vox, or BuzzFeed.
I can't recall *anything* from Fox News, which should just by sheer numbers have been there every day, even if liberals "didn't like" the content.
An fbook user would never, and I mean NEVER, see a story from FOX or the like. I kept on seeing Vox, Huff Post, etc. Annoying.
