Canada will retaliate against new U.S. tariffs by imposing its own trade barriers on U.S. steel, aluminum and other products, Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said Thursday.
This story is developing. Please check back for updates.
“Canada is the 12th largest exporter in the world. In 2017, it exported $433 billion. Three-fourths of this goes to the United States.”
Canada’s GDP is $1.7 trillion. That means they rely on us for 20% of their GDP. Good luck, Trudeau!
Shut off the keystone pipeline.
At Amherst sd..again
There's a brewery in eastern Canada - Alexander Keith - that's even better. Hard to find in the U.S. though.
“American Petroleum Institute just issued a statement saying that 77% of the steel used in drilling and pipelines in America is imported, and that this will raise prices.”
Buy American, you idiots, and you won’t have to pay tariffs!
Cars and Machinery are the biggest imports from Canada. We already applied tariffs to Canadian Lumber last December.
This is not really a popular understanding of the situation. But I say we need a trade war. We need higher tariffs in the US. There are higher tariffs in all our trading partners, friend and foe. And we have to much stuff here. Lower our taxes, make the money back on tariffs, and make the tariffs mirror the tariffs of our products overseas.
The US has more stuff than we need. We have a booming economy. Its a great time to set the trade so that its fair. If there is a trade war so be it. I bet we win. Because our market is larger, and our economy is larger. In fact the trade war will stop us from going into recession. It will be the same as the fed raising interest rates. So the fed can keep rates lower, longer.
Our trade treaties are crony capitalism. There are tons of carve outs for well connected companies who lobbied for favors in our country or our trading partners. We should tear up those deals and replace them with simple, you tariff us, we tariff you, agreements.

A play off of Canadian Bacon.
The only Michael Moore movie I will watch.
Not because of him, but the cast is rather good.
Where will the Canucks buy their Jeans and other goods now?
So, what does this mean for my Glass Tiger cassette?
Next, the US should tell Canada that they can no longer threaten US pharmaceutical companies with ignoring their patents if they don’t give the Canadian health care system the prices they’re willing to pay. That’s out and out extortion, and should not be tolerated. The R&D occurs here, and the costs get passed on to US consumers, while other nations (including Canada) threaten to make their own generics and ignore active patents if the pharmaceutical companies don’t comply with their pricing demands.
It’s about time too!
Increasing tariffs is just fine, if income taxes are dropped. Extract tax dollars from foreign producers.
Yes. Of equal importance is that he is doing this now, rather than doing what all the other past administrations have done - letting everyone else strengthen themselves while we became weaker. At some point, allowing the world to advance while you stagnate becomes an irreversible mistake.
The entire country? Wow...California's GDP is OVER $2.7 trillion...
Stock market chicken littlest running around without heads today.
Oh Ye Of Little Faith.

The other stuff? The wood, oil, and seafood?
I think we can handle that.
