President Trump on Wednesday signed into law a bill that would allow those with potentially terminal diseases to try experimental treatments and bypass the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The so-called Right to Try Act of 2017, sponsored by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., unanimously passed the Senate last August, and cleared the House last week on a party-line vote of 250-169 -- in a win for both Johnson and the Trump administration.
"Today I am proud to keep another promise to the American people as I sign the Right to Try legislation into law," Trump said Wednesday. "We're going to be saving tremendous numbers of lives."
The president said the issue was "very personal" for him.
"As I proudly sign this bill, thousands of terminally ill Americans will have the help, the hope and the fighting chance -- and I think its going to be better than chance -- that they will be cured, that they will be helped, that they will be able to be with their families for a long time, or maybe just for a longer time, Trump said. But were able to give them the absolute best we have at this current moment, at this current second. Were going to help a lot of people. Its an honor to be signing this.
Patients with terminal conditions should have access to experimental treatments that could potentially save their lives, Trump said during his address earlier this year. It is time for the Congress to give these wonderful Americans the right to try.

But Democrats have been critical of the legislation, saying it would peddle false hope and place patients at risk.
How can anyone with a fatal condition be anymore "at risk"?
Is this not a much more important news item, than any of the drama queen, teeth gnashing over the insult to Ms. Jarrett?
Probably won’t hurt to try it.
It could generate so many snake oil peddlers selling hope to the terminally ill that it becomes impossible to weed through the garbage.
The FDA should should host forums on experimental drugs that list the theory why a treatment might work and any studies that might demonstrate efficacy, along with reviews of those studies. They should allow rebuttals as well.
On the other hand, it creates impromptu studies on the efficacy, without all the red tape to set one up.
The Democrats and other statists always think they know best and should make all the decisions about YOUR life.
What the hell do they have to lose?
I’ve said for years that thanks to the internet, the truth percolates to the surface. I don’t think snake oil cures will last as long as they used to.
BTW, I had a friend with stage four breast cancer that tried the Gerson method. She’s been cancer free now for over seven years.
It will also shorten the testing time on new life-saving drugs. They won’t have to wait while the FDA farts around for years doing “studies”. They will have legitimate test cases.
The cat’s out of the bag for the AMA, FDA and big pharma now. The Dems couldn’t protect them.
But, there must be a documentation requirement so the results are of use.
Remember how the dems moved quickly to back stem cell research, even saying it would cure paralysis? In fact actor Christopher Reeves said so at their convention (or something) IIRC. In fact, all this had to do was siding with abortion uber alles. So now, it peddles false hope? Hypocrite alert.
Thanks for posting.
HOORAY President Donald J. Trump! Thank you, sir.
Impossible for Dems to rejoice about life......unless of course it’s their own...
Hey, democrats - I’m a Dead Man Walking, het outta my face.
Best President of the 21st century so far.
Exactly.
Would also cut the hell out of “testing” costs that drive drugs thru the roof!
Best president of the 20th and 21st centuries IMO.
posted the following in other thread about this topic-
if women have a right to decide what to do with their own bodies in order to save their lives due to dangerous pregnancies- then why dont dying patients have a right to try everything possible to try to save their lives?
