Never buy a purebred dog from anyone but a reputable licensed breeder. Make sure you visit the facility personally. Check online reviews. Ask to speak to some customers.

Don’t do business with anyone who objects.

I may be prejudiced, but I was expecting the debarked dogs to be pit bulls. You rarely hear of a legit breeder with that many breeds, so I’m betting he was a complete scumbag.

People here joke about Amish like they are benign, but they are known for their animal cruelty whether it's a horse or a dog or livestock. And they will cheat you every which way if you do business with them. Amish are really a cult.

Sounds like a backyard breeder looking to save the cost of a veterinarian. And a lazy sod, too, mutilating their dogs vs. training them. You are absolutely right about the so-called religious “Amish”. They use up every inch of an animal, often cruelly, then send their used-up horses to slaughter instead of rewarding their years of grueling work with some deserved pasture time. They run puppy mills, kitten mills, even bird mills. They are hypocrites.

Licensed breeders in PA are people who have large kennels. Every puppy mill is one.
A reputable breeder almost always isn’t large enough to need a license.

Sounds like a large kennel operation, like a broker. Private breeders seldom get involved with multiple breeds. Sometimes they will if the breeds are close in origin, like a 2 retriever breeds.
