The Pennsylvania SPCA removed 15 dogs from an unlicensed breeder in Lancaster after humane law-enforcement officers found that some of them had been illegally debarked.
State law prohibits devocalization, also known as debarking, of a dog unless the procedure is performed by a licensed veterinarian using anesthesia, said Gillian Kocher, spokeswoman for the PSPCA.
The officers, acting on a tip that an adult female husky had been debarked, removed the dogs from the Quarryville breeder last Friday, and brought them to the organizations Philadelphia headquarters to be examined and treated. The debarked dogs included the husky, named Rosella, a Doberman Pinscher, and a third dog.
They were actually debarked by pushing a pipe-type object down the throat multiple times to damage the vocal cords, Kocher said.

Debark the jerk that did this.
And ‘Bobbit’ them as well.
With no anesthesia.
Never buy a purebred dog from anyone but a reputable licensed breeder. Make sure you visit the facility personally. Check online reviews. Ask to speak to some customers.
Dont do business with anyone who objects.
L
Lancaster, PA area big AMISH community and they are not well liked for their puppy farms.
I may be prejudiced, but I was expecting the debarked dogs to be pit bulls. You rarely hear of a legit breeder with that many breeds, so I’m betting he was a complete scumbag.
YES
Yes, to both. Monsters.
Never heard of debarking.
It bothers me more that it’s legal if a licensed veterinarian does it.
Sounds like a backyard breeder looking to save the cost of a veterinarian. And a lazy sod, too, mutilating their dogs vs. training them. You are absolutely right about the so-called religious “Amish”. They use up every inch of an animal, often cruelly, then send their used-up horses to slaughter instead of rewarding their years of grueling work with some deserved pasture time. They run puppy mills, kitten mills, even bird mills. They are hypocrites.
“licensed breeder”
Licensed breeders in PA are people who have large kennels. Every puppy mill is one.
A reputable breeder almost always isn’t large enough to need a license.
Few things make me angrier than people who are cruel to animals.
I’m guessing the PA SPCA will put these dogs down (to save them).
Pit bulls are huge on barking.
Oops, I meant they are NOT huge on barking.
Hillary should visit PA.
Brilliant response.
Sounds like a large kennel operation, like a broker. Private breeders seldom get involved with multiple breeds. Sometimes they will if the breeds are close in origin, like a 2 retriever breeds.
