I hope all of these businesses lose their rule abiding, paying, customers and become married to their new lawless, non-paying clientele. I hope they love each other till death do they part. Starting with Starbucks!

The business could’ve told the race card players to pound sand.

They didn’t. The business is not only complicit but encourages and supports the race card players.

Or maybe, feel so guilty for being there that it ceases to be there. They should look for an ungentrified place in gloriously unracist Canada, maybe.

I smell what may have been more attitudist than racist on the part of those staffers. They had actually been helping the stragglers when this gal struts in, Frito-Lay factory on her shoulder, and on beholding her they said errrp, grace period ended.

I’d have apologized for the confusion and offered her a couple boxes of donuts in conciliation, promising to tighten up the procedure in future. But this is it, do-wop. No sacrificial firings or grovelings about racism.

Couldn’t agree more.

And now that one business has done this, expect others to have the race card presented in their establishments.

You know, Starbucks seems destined to destroy their own brand. This latest mandatory sensitivity training is a great example.

First they opened their establishments to the homeless.

Then they rescended that.

Then they demanded employees attend sensitivity training.

Then they announced Blacks don’t have to attend.

Each of these is majorly offensive on some level.

At 9.06PM the front door was not locked...

Its not “after hours” until the shop is CLOSED as in locked up tight...

if a cust6omer can just walk in the door they should be served...

Don’t tell me “we’re closed” when its obvious youre still OPEN...

HELLO ???

if its “after hours” why wasn’t the front door locked at 9PM sharp ???

The door open was the problem.

What would one do by the golden rule here. I think firing the employees who were caught up in the confusion was a bridge too far. Tightening up the business rules to be fair to everybody sounds like the thing to do. Like others have been saying. Everybody in line at closing time sharp, which should be prominently posted on the door, please come in the door, and we’ll lock it and let you out after you are served. No big moralization needed, it’s just “to be fair to everybody.” And to this gal, apologize for “any confusion” and offer her a conciliatory box or two of donuts any time she can stop in during business hours.

Conservatives HAVE gotten reputations as “reactionary” and sometimes it’s true. The answer proffered to one wad of selfishness shouldn’t be another wad of the same. In this way, the devil lures people down a rabbit hole.

I remember many times when I worked in retail having people arrive at five minutes before closing or even try to sneak in five after closing when I unlocked the door to let a late customer out. I even had to go to the switch box to turn off half the lights to give a hint that it was 9:10 and to come back tomorrow.

Even now I try not to enter a store within 15 minutes of closing time to not be rude to the employees who want to go home.

It appears that it might be — with people still in there being served possibly. Even with the Open sign turned out.
The details aren’t clear.

Going above and beyond has a risk. But whatever the consequences, I wouldn’t be canning any people short of something really gross, like saying “get outta here you obnoxious n*gger.”

Agreed - I don’t think this was a racist action either.
I DO think the customer was treated improperly.
Was firing the employees overkill? Maybe? I’m leaning towards justified - but I would’ve based it on poor service and making the establishment look bad - not on racism.

I wouldn’t have done it unless it was something really gross, or if the store had an official policy governing what they should do about stragglers and it was obviously violated. And in the latter case there would be warnings first. Goodwill carries on.

Unfortunately Not everyone in Oregon is a fruitcake. A large portion of the population is being held hostage by the fruitcakes, a lot of the fruitcakes being transplants.

I was in that neighborhood last week!

But to call this place of business a “Bakery” is a stretch. From their website:

All of the food we serve, and the kitchen it is prepared in, is completely free of gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs and meat. We believe that a gluten-free and plant-based menu can best accommodate everyone in our capacious community. We also make a significant effort to bake and cook items that are free from common allergies such as soy, nuts, potato, coconut, etc.

What do they serve, Rice cakes?

It is likely that even if the front doors to this bakery are locked, the back doors are almost certainly wide open for business.
