Reminds me of a story about Josephine Baker, star of the Jazz Age 1920s. She left an unfriendly America and went to Paris where she became extremely popular, in part for her risqué costumes and energetic dancing. Very successful and famous, she was on top of the world.
One day, however, she had an unpleasant encounter in the street. That night she bumped into a friend who casually asked how Josephine was doing. “Well,” Josephine replied, “I found out today that I am still a n*****.”
