Some drivers are questioning whether the device's communications system could allow the state, the police or private companies to track a driver's movements.
Dealerships are expected to sell the plates for $699, not including installation costs. Users also must pay a monthly fee of about $7.
*** Here is the really funny part ***
city officials will talk first with labor representatives about assurances that the city will not use the plate technology as a monitoring device on city employees.

This is just the first step in making people pay per mile driven... the money will be road maintenance (ha ha ha) no it won’t, it will go into that bottomless pit called “social programs”.

In the driverless future you won’t need to be tracked.
You’ll be escorted.

$700 initial cost + $84 per year to avoid annual registration stickers (which almost certainly still have to be paid for in addition to the $84). And all you get is the ability to personalize it and report its location in case of a car theft? Big pass!
But then I wouldn't even get personalized ham radio plates because I realized that the call sign database is public, so anyone would be able to type it in and see who I am.

A quarter the hours, higher rate, roughly a 60% net pay cut.
