No one associated with the 2017 documentary The Final Year meant for audiences to laugh at its content.
The film looks at the Obama administrations foreign policy team in its final days in power. Its a sobering look at how diplomacy works in the modern era. The stakes are obviously high, and everyone is working their hardest to make the right calls.
Events, and an increasingly biased press, changed how we see the movie today.
The filmmakers and subjects alike expected President Barack Obama to pass the baton to President-Elect Hillary Clinton. They meant the movie to be part documentary, part victory lap. They assumed Obamas foreign policy machine would keep on chugging, perhaps with a slightly different melody or rhythm.
A certain reality show star begged to differ.
The result? Some serious hand-wringing in the movies waning moments as Election Night results poured in. Think a similar coda from the documentary 11/8/2016.
That isnt the only seismic shift that makes viewing The Final Year, debuting at 8 p.m. May 21 on HBO, a comical experience.
Its comparing how the media fawned over Obama for eight years only to attack his successor with a Fake News jamboree.

As for watching, I'll pass.
What are these people smoking?!
Lol
If someone can cobble together a youtube video from the doc, showing the stunned faces of the Obamaites on election night, I’d watch that.
“Nuanced” = weak
Putting a photo of Lurch on that poster is gonna make kids think this is a muppet movie (albeit a muppet from Madame Toussaud’s).
Utter cognitive dissonance. They think their farts smell like ambrosia.
if there is a true mental meltdown in the final moments of the movie as the Obummers realize that Trump beat Hillary, it might, and I stress, MIGHT, be worth watching. LOL
Guess when this part happens!!! LOL
If someone can cobble together a youtube video from the doc, showing the stunned faces of the Obamaites on election night, Id watch that.
Thatd make an excellent pre-show to the grand finale of watching Hillary go into a cake-tossing fit of rage. Pure comedy gold.
My God, those people look like parodies of liberals.
Just record it and fast forward to the last 15 minutes. Its hilarious!
There is and it is well worth watching. Ben Rhodes just keeps repeating the word I when asked a question by a reporter after it became clear Hillary lost. Its better than the Powers all Hillary fan party, although not by Much.
Thanks so much. I have it on HBO on demand. I’m fast forwarding as I type.
There isnt enough cocaine in the universe for Hollyweird writers to make this compelling, believable, and worth watching.
I’ll go one further:
“Nuanced”= giving your enemy everything he wants.

And the comments just make it sweeter. :-)
Integrity, honesty, truthfulness, patriotism, pride...hell, the dining room table and the silverware too! Oh, yeah, and lots of Blackberries and computer hard drives are missing too. Yep, not gonna miss that.
That was wonderful!
