Thomas Wictor Twitter Thread on North Korea

So THIS is the plan. Here's the North Korean statement: The North Koreans are saying, "The US and North Korea can't even talk, due to the mutual historical baggage. So the only solution is reunification with the South." OH MY GOD. Kim Jong-un is saying that in order to improve relations, he's willing to dissolve his country! And with that one statement, China loses control of North Korea. Incredible. Trump and Bolton and Kim and Moon pulled off the mother of all deceptions. Next,Trump will agree to meet Kim. See, the Chinese were thinking small: nukes. Trump and Kim were thinking BIG: reunification.

I would have died laughing only 5 years before if someone told me West and East Germany would be United.

With great presidents great things are possible. We just have them so rarely. I guess we will take a wait-and-see on this. Can’t imagine the generals going for it or Kim giving up that kind of power.

Anyone remember who was in control of East Germany at least as a puppet? Before the reunification

Kim is a young guy. Just like the new prince of SA. They love western culture. They know that their old ways are not the future. We are living in an amazing time. We should all be praying for peace and prosperity for the world. We’ve tried to bomb our way to peace the last 20 years. We got nowhere.

I do not think Kim’s statement means what the Twitter guy thinks it does. Reason is that the statement seems more to be a difficulty with English expression. The obstacles to reunification of north and south are immense. Sure it could happen, but this is not a situation that is in any way similar to East and West Germany at the end of the Cold War.

We did?

For real?

If so this is a major historical event on par with the re-unification of East and West Germany...

Maybe more so.

I’ve said similar before. KJU was raised in the western world and knows what could be possible. I also shared the sentiment of other posters that his execution of many of his high officials could have been an effort to get rid of the hardliners in NK to pave the way for some progress. Fingers crossed.

I’m not sure South Korea would want to take on the problems of NK.

I do not think Kim’s statement means what the Twitter guy thinks it does.

I'm sure you're a smart guy, but I'll put my money on Wictor.

We’ve tried to bomb our way to peace the last 20 years. We got nowhere.

That's a questions of target acquisition, then putting the required ordinance on the target.

It's a political rather than a technical skill that has largely seemed lost to us since the end of WWII.

Though the overwhelming possibilities are certainly there.

Don't count your chickens before they've come home to roost, or something. But yes, reunification is definitely the end game, and one question is how far South Korea's Moon will go to effect it - a U.S. draw-down? Economic pledges to the North? He'll have to do some fast talking to his generals to get them to buy in, but a U.S. withdrawal is almost certainly on the table.

Still, it's an epochal change and there's no point in rushing things unduly, but yes, it could happen. And it might not.

We need to sanction North Korea and their sponsors as hard as we can.

When the North Koreans talk about reunification with
the South, they really mean North Korean conquest of South Korea. There is no way North Korea can adapt to the lifestyle and freedoms
of the South Korean people without a complete dissolution
of the North Korean government.

And then their are the punishments that must be meted out
for the Kim's crimes against the the North Korean
people and against South Korea and the United States of America. Consider: Kim Jun Un murdered his brother in an
international airport in Malaysia with a banned nerve agent.
Is he not to be held responsible for this, as well
the suffering and killings in his concentration camps?

“Kim Jong-un is saying that in order to improve relations, he’s willing to dissolve his country!”

I don’t think so. More likely, he is saying that South Korea should dissolve their country.

Think of it this way, the North is 100% dominated by the Communist party. The South, let’s say is dominated only 25% by the Communist party. If you merge them, then what? The “reunified” country is dominated 62% by the Communist party? We know how “free elections” will go in that situation.

Yeah I still see that statement as reunification on NORK terms. So nothing has changed, still typical NORK propaganda!

......”The obstacles to reunification of north and south are immense.”..........

Yes and besides the conditions would be the removal of Us forces entirely. And were tat to happen you can bet China Russia and N.Korea would make a mad dash reclaim S. Korea.
