Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Thursday after attending a classified briefing that he continues to support special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
McConnell told NPR that Mueller's investigation and a separate probe by the Justice Department's inspector general into the FBI's actions during the 2016 election will ultimately provide answers to a number of questions swirling around the presidential race.
"The two investigations going on that I think will give us the answers to the questions that you raise the [inspector general] investigation in the Justice Department and the Mueller investigation," McConnell told NPR.
"I support both of them, and I don't really have anything to add to this subject based upon the Gang of Eight briefing that we had today, which was classified."
McConnell's vote of confidence in Mueller's investigation came after he attended a highly classified meeting with top law enforcement and intelligence officials on Thursday.
The White House brokered a pair of briefings between officials and key lawmakers at the Justice Department to discuss the FBI's use of a top-secret informant in the early days of a counterintelligence probe into Russia's role in the 2016 election.
The briefing attended by McConnell was given to the so-called "Gang of Eight" a bipartisan group of lawmakers, consisting of the four top congressional leaders and the top Republicans and Democrats on the House and Senate Intelligence committees.
The White House had initially pushed for Justice Department officials to brief a select group of Republican lawmakers on Thursday, but arranged for a second, broader bipartisan briefing after facing pressure from Democrats and some Republicans.
Reports have indicated that the FBI source met with three advisers to President Trump's campaign during the 2016 election. Trump and his allies have claimed without evidence in recent days that the FBI used the informant to improperly spy on his campaign.
Trump has asserted that Mueller's investigation is a "hoax" and a "witch hunt" intended to undermine his presidency.
Mitch using any opportunity to twist the knife.
To the contrary, had there been a smidgeon of evidence of collusion, it would have been leaked to the media before the election.

Yes, indeed— for, why should he, when he can just sit on his a@@ and wait for the dead weight of his “leadership” to devolve to the inevitable tipping point of one more screw in the coffin of the US citizens who are not his “gifters” or the benefactor of his political coffers.... like the CHI COMs are— Just imagine what Elaine Chao is doing as Secretary of Transportation (one of the most GRAFT ridden potential positions there is, aside from the EPA, for influencing the direction and speed of US industrial recovery. The DOT controls all the US interstate system, the railroads, bridges, and most especially the “highway” Trust fund of federal gasoline taxes US wide (which is a slush fund, even though it is to be directed to transportation needs US wide— as a “use tax”). We hear absolutely NOTHING from her office, what she is improving, or not or really WHAT she is doing. She was, of course Sec. of Labor (think what that would mean from the Kowloon side, or Taiwanese Chinese influence alone, never mind the 10 container ships her family’s business had built by the Chi-Com prison labor force. And am NOT a union organizing type, but respect the dignity of properly paid skilled labor.
Trump must put some pressure in order to get McConnell to approve even more judges and US attorneys. McConnell ain’t exactly moving fast. More info on him coming. But Mark Levin is on his story, for sure.
And to think, McConnell went through the kabuki theater with Treas. Sec.Mnuchin by going to Ft. Knox and “verifying” US Gold Bullion is all there— but just not saying... how much. Can’t make this up. He is one greasy mush mouth. Who, btw was born and raised in N. Alabama (which makes him almost a “Corker” TN type pol), who moved to KY for his very brief scandalous military assignment-— at Fort Knox.
We must act FOR God.
Yes, indeed. No mistaking He is on our side vs. these false people.
Trump seems very patient. He’s not going after Sessions, and I am inclined to at this point.
Somebody knows something they aren’t telling us.
Perhaps he’s just watching the Left out themselves, and then the hammer...
No argument here.
We need to boot him out of the leadership position now. Ryan also...
Every day is a lost day at this point.
We must have movement.
Mitch collects a federal paycheck, true.
But his biggest paycheck is not his federal paycheck, but one indirectly signed by Xi Jinping!
Dont play poker with PDJT. I wouldnt. Keeps his cards close to his vest
He can simultaneously dazzle them with brilliance, AND baffle them with bull$h!t
We’ll see how it plays out.
Allowing some time to pass before going after certain people might be a good play.
If they’d have done it right off, there would have been more resistance.
