Denia Perezs parents brought her from Mexico to the United States illegally when she was 11. Last month, she became among the first of the so-called Dreamers to earn a law degree. And now, she and others are using their lawyerly know-how to take on the system so they can legally practice.
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which allows young immigrants who entered the U.S. before 2007 and before their 16th birthday to go to school under temporary renewable work permits, became law in 2012. That means the first beneficiaries have now had just enough time to graduate from high school, get a bachelors degree and now, in some cases, a law degree.
The problem: Most states require that practicing lawyers be U.S. citizens or have legal residency status.
Relatively few Dreamers have completed law degrees, said Sheila Hayre, a visiting law professor at Quinnipiac University, from whose law school Perez graduated this month. Perez is the only one currently seeking admission to Connecticuts bar. But she and peers who are also getting law degrees are positioning themselves for a fight.

Exactly. That’s why I oppose the 60s legislative acts. Immigration, so called “civil rights” This is as you say being used against us. Big big mistakes. The stolen election by Kennedy and Daley was the biggest political disaster as it set in motion a whole ton of bad stuff that’s hurt the county irreperably.
that another reason why they should be deported, we have an over abundance of ambulance chasers and other shysters.
The first thing to do is to verify the veracity of responses on all documents completed to get this far. Next, notify the state bar about illegal activity to get into this country. There is no way these scum should be granted citizenship let alone lawyer status in this country.
What do you call a bus load of lawyers, with one empty seat, heading over a cliff? A crying shame.
Incredible! Is there anything that affirmative action quotas can’t accomplish on behalf of the illegal and unqualified?
Good. Now send them back to their own countries to prosecute the crimes.
We have more than enough Demonrat Attorneys in the USA already.
What is really bad is the hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans they took out..
“This is exactly why this nation will not survive another 5 years”
I thought that once obamatard was prezzy, but the American people always surprise me in a good way..
proves “Enemy of my Enemy is my friend.”
We know which side they are on.
Wait til you see the effect they’ll have, specializing in immigration law!==8-O
The doctrine of destruction from within.
Lets see how long they can keep that up.
“But your Honor, that patriarchal attitude isn’t fair and I find it very offensive.”
Naturally. They're going to fight any and every deportation tooth and nail. When we're unable to throw even obvious face-tattooed MS13 members out of the country thanks to a never-ending appeals process, we'll have these affirmative action "Dreamer" attorneys to thank.
I think that by now Trump regrets having said "I love the Dreamers." The DACA invaders aren't "the best and brightest" of the illegal lot that we keep hearing about. They're just the ones who are best at manipulating the system in their own favor. What little native intelligence they have all goes into being con-artists.
Worse, they'll develop "boilerplate-law", which will help direct every immigration attorney and judge.
How does one get a law license if you are are here illegally?
I get an anal probe every time I apply for a medical license from a new state.
I have to report any thing above a traffic ticket....
The powers that be have decided that illegal immigrants - particularly those from Mexico and Central America, are special, protected class of people - the new favorite pets of the elite. The rules that apply to US citizens simply don't apply to them.
This fact is even advertised by calling the "Dreamers" - with the clear implication that their needs and concerns are far worthier and more noble than yours.
Why? Is there a big demand for attorneys versed in US law...in Mexico?
