Todays journalists routinely assert that it is extreme, dangerous, and possibly even criminal for the White House or anyone else, for that matter to criticize an investigation into the President. But twenty years ago, Independent Counsel Ken Starr was savaged by the same liberal media during his investigation of then-President Bill Clinton. At that time, Starr was harangued as a partisan and inept prosecutor, and a peeping Tom.
On Monday evening, MSNBC host Chris Matthews shared his take on the Trump administrations attitude towards Mueller while hosting Hardball: President Trump is indicating today that hes willing to go to extreme new lengths to discredit the Russia probe.
It seems extremely dangerous that you have investigators investigating the investigation, intoned a deeply concerned Don Lemon. The CNN Tonight host continued, You have a President who appears to be, by anyones standards, trying to manipulate the process.
Chris Cuomo was similarly incensed on Tuesday, providing the following synopsis on CNNs New Day: The logic is clear. Attack the people who are attacking you, even if its just in perception. Bring down their credibility, and that will reduce the impact of anything they find...
During a segment on ABCs This Week, CNN Contributor and former Ted Cruz staffer Amanda Carpenter mounted a particularly tone-deaf defense of the Special Counsel. One of the problems here is that Donald Trump has a strong PR machine giving his side of the story out, and the Department of Justice and the investigators do not, she claimed as if the media are not themselves a massive anti-Trump PR machine.
The liberal media-wide closing of ranks around the Mueller investigation has ramped up in recent days, but it is nothing new in the age of Trump. In March, MSNBC White House Correspondent Peter Alexander suggested that a tweet in which the President had criticized Mueller somehow constituted a criminal act: Does this effort to sort of undermine and discredit this investigation... does this only add to this obstruction of justice effort by Robert Mueller?
Back in December of 2017, Lemon confessed on his show that he found conservative media criticism of Mueller embarrassing, and shocking to watch.
Journalists sang a very different tune when it was a Democratic President under scrutiny. Accusations of Ken Starrs supposed partisan zeal and incompetence were commonplace throughout the investigation, and as the probe dragged on, the cacophony of dissenting voices only grew fiercer. MRC analysts combed the archives for the most egregious clips of pundits tearing into the Special Counsel, which can be viewed in the compilation video below.

"There is growing controversy tonight, about whether the newly named independent counsel in the Whitewater case is independent or a Republican partisan allied with a get-Clinton movement. - Dan Rather on the August 8 CBS Evening News, 1994.

We all know the answer. Trump’s fatal flaw is that he is a Republican. Clinton, as a democrat could do no wrong. The ends justify the means.
Nothing has changed; they’re just hoping we have short memories.
James Carville was on tv everyday trashing Ken Starr in the most disgusting, sexual way. I’ve never forgiven that piece of trailer trash!
Liberals have absolutely no sense of fairness.
When did America have an honest liberal media?
The Corporate Media must be destroyed by any means necessary.
Drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you'll find when the Clintons will manage to steal it and eliminate any witnesses.
Time for people in the Center and on the Right to grow up and understand something: It is NOT hyperbole to say that many on the Left want you and your children DEAD. The sooner you realize they are NOT playing by any set of rules that THEY THEMSELVES will follow and that they are playing a dangerous game for KEEPS, the sooner we can defeat them.
Stop acting surprised when these Demons get caught being hypocrites, it is part of their playbook to project and try and enforce one-sided rules.....they are sick and evil.
That’s because Ken Starr was coming after someone they liked politically, while Bob Mueller is pursuing a political enemy. It’s not as if they have principles or anything.
On that note Mueller getting those questionable indictments of Russians and Russian companies gave the Dems and their ‘media’ the ability to characterize the indictments as convictions, which they have been doing.
Few if any of them will go to trial so Mueller gets a PR win for an ‘indictment’ even if he has no evidence.
In fact how do we know that those indicted even exist?
We should see what he presented to the Grand Jury.
Senior reporters get to that level by having many sources in government willing to talk to them. Members of the Deep State will only talk to people who can be counted on to advance their agenda.
There is a graphic floating around which shows the incestuous relationship between media and government, with who is related to who.
THIS is the secret that they want to keep hidden, the level of connection between them all.
The ends justify the means.

Situational ethics. Anything that’s good for me is good. What’s good for you is bad because it doesn’t benefit me.
Don’t we have sufficient evidence to stop calling the media the “news” media and label them for what they are, Liberal activists?
Does America have an honest liberal media anymore? I think we do not.
Liberal now means Progressive.
The root, the core, the basic assumption of Progressivism is to lie to and manipulate the public in order to gain power and put in place their agenda.
It is their core belief.
Senior reporters get to that level by having many sources in government willing to talk to them. Members of the Deep State will only talk to people who can be counted on to advance their agenda.
People who are not “with” the Progressive agenda are identified by the media and activist groups and are weeded out regularly.
Politicians who are not Progressives are targeted by the media for defeat, in primaries and in the general elections.
Politicians who are not Progressives are targeted for conversion by the Media, who then say they have “grown” in office.

And vice-versa. Both investigations went off the rails early on. Trouble is, in the ‘whitewater’ investigation, there really was some fire behind all the smoke. However, the fire was way too hot for them to touch, so they went after peripheral stuff.
