Giuliani reverses: Trump should interview with Mueller
The Hill ^ | 05/23/2018 | Jacqueline Thomsen

Posted on 05/23/2018 12:19:03 PM PDT by GIdget2004

President Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani said Wednesday that he believes that Trump should interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, in a reversal of his previous statements on the topic.

“I guess I’d rather do the interview. It gets it over with it, it makes my client happy,” Giuliani told The Washington Post. “The safe course you hear every lawyer say is don’t do the interview, and that’s easy to say in the abstract. That’s much harder when you have a client who is the president of the United States and wants to be interviewed.”

Giuliani has cast doubt on Trump interviewing with Mueller in the past. He told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published Tuesday that if he were to make a decision on the interview in that moment, he would decide against it.

The former New York City mayor told The Post in the new interview that Trump has vacillated over whether or not he wants to interview with Mueller in the probe.

“There have been a few days where he says, ‘maybe you guys are right,’” Giuliani said, referring to members of Trump’s legal team who have warned him against talking with Mueller.

“Then he goes right back to, ‘why shouldn’t I?’” he added.

He also said that he was concerned that a Trump interview with Mueller could be set up to catch the president on a possible perjury charge because “truth is relative.”

“They may have a different version of the truth than we do,” Giuliani said.

My analysis is that everyone is comparing this to Lucy and Charlie Brown and the football. People are worried that Charlie Brown is President Trump and Lucy is Mueller. When, in fact, it is the other way around.

Guliani is a shell of his old self, sadly. Pres. Trump should have the fraud MUELLER answer a series of 51 questions FIRST, under oath!

Yeah, I think you're right. This President is very much like President Reagan in dealing with his opponents, but he does it in a way that we've never seen.

Ronald Reagan was a master communicator who regularly went over the heads of the media directly to the people. He consistently beat the media by doing that because his optimism, wit, and determination connected with the American people. Reagan wasn't the first to do that, but he was absolutely the best at it.

Donald Trump seems to do the same with Twitter, but I've come to see that rather than going over the heads of the media, he's actually going right at them to create continual chaos. Then he stands in the middle of the chaos, in the spotlight where he thrives, and deftly conducts his symphony with a knowing smile and a very big baton while the media look like flailing fools. Also like Reagan who successfully employed his media strategy against his non-media opponents, Trump employs his media negation strategy against his non-media opponents like Mueller and the Deep Staters who are finding themselves increasingly in the Trump chaos zone.

Your point is naïve and insane. The Pres is being charged with NO CRIME. Why should this functionary fraud Mueller have any authority to question him at all? Sheer madness.

I say you set up the meeting and use it for the secret Service to detain Mueller and question him regarding knowledge of conspiracy or physical threats against President’s life by text or email.

I understand that people don’t recognize the point at which Trump moved from defense to offense...it was about 10 days ago in case you didn’t notice.

It isn’t about Mueller’s authority. It’s about Trump giving Mueller one path of retreat - you always give an opposing force a path of retreat. What Mueller did to Flynn is now in the public in all it’s horrid glory. He can’t do it again. Mueller is in a box and he’s trapped. Trump can take this right into his face and Mueller can’t do a damned thing except exonerate him, he’s got no other options because his previous prosecutorial over-reaches are all known and right out in the public. Trump is on offense and is rolling the enemy up. Mueller can back out now or he can forfeit the rest of his life by going down in flames.

“...how the public would react if the corrupt media were to broadcast daily, Trump said, “No way he wold ever talk, way too risky...”

Exactly - the enemedia would spin it to seem as though the President is nervous and then declare that this means that President Trump is guilty.

My theory is that Guiliani/Trump are thinking that this whole thing is going to crumble anyway before an interview and this way the enemedia cannot spin it that Trump is guilty and/or “afraid” to do the interview.

Hard to take any of this very seriously. It just part of the posturing for public consumption.

Mueller is in a declining position of power. The IG report and other revelations like Spygate make the Mueller investigation look more and more like a manufactured setup trying to find a crime. The indicted Russian companies' and the Flynn cases are built on sand. Every day that passes makes it worse for Mueller.

IMO Mueller is looking for a face-saving way to end this investigation. An interview with Trump might be it, OTO Mueller is getting desperate and needs a Hail Mary Trump interview to set the perjury trap.

I think he is doing some theater here. No way would any competent attorney ever assent to their client’s interview with this nefarious gang. And G. is far more than merely competent.

It’s all positioning and drama.

He also said that he was concerned that a Trump interview with Mueller could be set up to catch the president on a possible perjury charge because “truth is relative.”

“They may have a different version of the truth than we do,” Giuliani said.

"May have a "different" "version" of the truth?

Ha ha, they aren't interested in the truth, they just want to get Trump.

Here's the way an interview between Trump and Mueller:

Trump asks the questions with Mueller under oath.

Trump NOT under oath (invoking the "Hillary rule")

The President has no reason to be questioned by Mueller, and doesn't have to be.

It's a trap and the rest of Trump's lawyers are telling him not to do it.

Don't help the lying agenda driven witch hunt guys set our President up Rudy.

Relax.

The script is already written.

President Trump knows he's innocent and knows this entire Russian thing is a hoax.

It's likely that Mueller won't last through this summer once he's constitutionally challenged.

I also think it's likely that President Trump will declassify documents which will serve to indict the previous administration's malfeasance.
