The U.S. birthrate hit a historic low in 2017, well below replacement levels, a phenomenon that Vox is touting as a sign of progress. According to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions National Center for Health Statistics, the general fertility rate for women between the ages of 15 and 44 in 2017 was 60.2 births per 1,000 women, the lowest recorded level since government records began over a century ago.
The total fertility rate (TFR) in the United States last year, which indicates the average number of births per woman in her lifetime, dropped to 1.76, considerably below the replenishment fertility rate for zero population growth of 2.1 children per woman.
According to Vox, the falling U.S. birth ratewhich has now sunk below that of several European nations including France, Sweden, and the UKmay actually be a sign of progress, since it indicates greater reproductive freedom.
In an Vox article Tuesday by Julia Belluz, pointed out a number of reasons to be happy with the new data, namely that it signals better access to birth control, womens advancement and improved conditions, and economic development.

Well heck yeah. Less folks, less See Uh O 2.
Is Julie a LESBIAN or just dumb and Evil?
Could be all three.
It’s a sign of Obamacare giving out the pill for FREE.
Look at China. Screwing around with the natural course of demographics has a price.
If plunging birthrates are a sign of success, I suppose victory would be total extinction.
It’s not low around here.
This only applies to white people. Our unwelcome visitors from the South and the ‘refugees’ that are pouring in are popping them out like crazy.
So I would ask this Julia Belluz what she thinks about certain groups within the U.S. which have high birth rates, e.g. inner city african-americans, latinos and muslims? I’d love to hear her answer.
....along with Muslims.
??? Want to be OUTRAGED ???
One Muslim guy in MN told a friend at work his goal was *20* babies with *20* DIFFERENT Women. He has 8 kids with 8 Women already.
.....AND NOT Marry any of these Mothers. They get MORE FREE Welfare from MN Taxpayers that way!
What a thing to read while watching The Handmaids Tale series.
Bullshirk. The primary and logical meaning of "reproductive freedom" ought to be "freedom to reproduce."
Numerous surveys have indicated that millions of women are having less children than they actually wanted. This is due to late marriage, lack of financial security, lack of adequate housing (esp in the big coastal cities) and dropping fertility both for men and women.
Fertility is, by the way, in every animal species a sign of health. The fact that male fertility is dropping dramatically (low overall sperm count, plus lower %age of normal, healthy sperm) goes almost unremarked, which is itself remarkable if we actually value our species.
Well, the Vox writer could take one small step for humanity by killing herself (they are her warped premises)....
Progress for the invaders having a dozen kids.
Alternate headline: “Vox: Deaths of More Americans is ‘Progress’”
Yep, see my Post #10 above. :-(
The fact is that now, with far higher contraception rate than ever before in the history of the human race, the USA still has staggeringly high abortion rates: one-in-five pregnancies.
All human acts have both intended results and unintended consequences, and this is definitely a case where the unintended ones have annihilated the intended ones. This is because, due to contraception, men have been socially and psychologically cut off from procreation ("That's her business") so the rates of both abortion and nonmarital childbearing remain high.
Sex has been cheaped, so marriage has been devalued. Marriage is devalued, so women and love and devalued.
And has there ever been a time which antagonism between women and men has been more virulent? More and more women say men are redundant; more and more men are MGTOW; both sexes are ill-equipped to form sound marriages and experience secure and satisfying married lives: the kind of married lives that naturally give birth to more children thriving on every level: physical, psychological, spiritual.
Contraception is just now on the verge of pushing whole nations into extinction. Without (I have to say it) immigration and the first-gen children of immigrants, the U.S. fertility rate would be as low as Japan's.
And that means one thing: Sayonara.
You can just hear our successors saying "Allahu Akbar."
