Publix has been Floridas favorite grocery chain for decades but some shoppers are turning their backs on the store after learning it donated more than half a million dollars to gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam.
A handful of state advocacy groups have gone to social media Twitter in particular urging shoppers to "#BoycottPublix" this Memorial Day weekend.
Some people have decided to boycott the store indefinitely, or until it withdraws $670,000 it has given to Putnam, a longtime Republican politician who drew ire after he called himself "a proud NRA sellout" and opposed Floridas new, stricter gun purchasing laws in the wake of the Parkland school shooting.

The Publix stores are the best down South. Buy from PUBLIX!!
Shopped there yesterday. And I will continue to go back.
I don’t think Publix has anything to be worried about.
I heard Putnam on local radio. He’s a slick one. “I’m a farmer”, etc. It was a total softball interview without any questions about the massive corporate support for him and the negative ads against DeSantis in support of him.
Having been born and raised in Florida, I LOVE Publix. I was delighted when we got some up here in North Carolina and I make point of shopping there. Great company, clean stores, friendly staff, good quality. Their sandwiches are particularly good.
Publix has, over the last few years, moved into the Southeast Tennessee area and I shop there quite a bit. I think I’ll shop there even more now.
I’m backing Adam Putnam...
Personally....I don’t know why Corporations stick their necks out and support any Politician.
Publix has had an aggressive expansion campaign over the past several years. Their strategy is to build as close to the high end competition as possible (Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Fresh Market, etc.)
They are going to build one in my town within walking distance of Fresh Market and Harris Teeter. Can’t wait to see the hit those two take when it opens.
My parents used to live in Florida and Publix was the best store to shop at. Anytime I am on vacation now in Florida, we got there instead of Wal-Mart. Cleaner and just as good as prices.
Tampa Bay Times, the bastion of objective reporting, stirring the pot against Publix/Putnam/NRA. I’m sure we’ll soon see their outrage over the killing of unborn children and the call to boycott those who support Planned Parenthood. Any day now........
If I were on social media, I’d post a #ISupportPublix response.
Every FReeper should have a Twitter account. That's where the fight is. Not here.
I would also but I don’t do social media. FR is as close as I get to it.
Tell me about it! I wind up with more than I can use and end up donating stuff to the local food banks.
I love Publix. Love them even more now!
Love Publix and will call their Corp HQ to say so.
Publix HQ : 1-800-242-1227. Called to say, despite what the Tampa Bay Times says, I believe Publix is great place to shop and workers at my local Publix are very caring people.
Customer Service Rep said she was so happy to get my call.......said it was best call she received all day.
I would never say what all Freepers should do or not do.
Freepers can do as they wish, just as you are free to have one if you wish.
No way would I be pressured to have a Twitter account and submit to their censoring or tracking, and NO NEED for me or anyone to have to defend their reasons for not joining Twitter.
And there you have it..........
